Gate 20 is the Gate of the Now in the Throat Center. Its energy is existential: awareness that lives only in this moment and speaks from it.
Its I Ching hexagram, Contemplation (Kuan), pictures wind over earth: standing on a high vantage point and seeing the whole landscape below. The contemplation here is not mental analysis. It is the stillness of being present enough to see everything clearly without reacting.

Gate 20's three channel connections
Gate 20 reaches into three different Centers. When it and one partner are both active, that Channel is defined, the Throat and the partner's Center are defined with it, and presence takes on that Center's quality.
Channel 10-20: Awakening
Connects to Gate 10, The Behavior of the Self, in the G Center. Individual Circuit, Integration sub-circuit. There is no motor in it: your authentic behavior comes out in the present moment, and you awaken others by being fully yourself, right now.
Channel 20-34: Charisma
Connects to Gate 34, Power, in the Sacral Center. Individual Circuit, Integration sub-circuit, and a manifesting Channel. It is the only Channel that joins the Sacral to the Throat, so anyone with it defined is a Manifesting Generator. Sacral response moves straight into action.
Channel 20-57: The Brainwave
Connects to Gate 57, Intuitive Clarity, in the Spleen Center. Individual Circuit, Knowing sub-circuit. It gives Gate 20 what it cannot have alone: awareness. The Spleen's intuitive clarity, in the moment, tells you when it is right to speak and act.
