Juxtaposition Cross of Fates
The Juxtaposition Cross of Fates is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 20, 29, 30 and 34, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. Gates 20 and 34 always form Channel 20-34, so everyone with it is a Manifesting Generator, with Gates 29 and 30 above.
Simple way to think about it: Fates is a river with the current already running. You can learn its bends and you can steer, but the water does not wait for you to decide that it is moving.

They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.
The Fates cross on the BodyGraph
Three Centers hold the four Gates. The Sacral has Gates 29 and 34, the Solar Plexus has Gate 30, and the Throat has Gate 20. The conscious pair, 29 and 30, is the pair the Right Angle Cross of Contagion carries. The Design pair, 34 and 20, comes from the Right Angle Cross of The Sleeping Phoenix.

How the Fates cross is placed
The Fates (30/29 | 34/20)
Recognition of Feelings is your conscious Sun and Saying Yes your conscious Earth, so a feeling Gate and a Sacral Gate sit on the side you know. Power and The Now run on the Design side. They complete Channel 20-34, so the part of you that others read as charisma works below your awareness.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 30: Recognition of Feelings
Gate 30, Recognition of Feelings, is the conscious Sun and sits in the Solar Plexus. Its hexagram is The Clinging Fire. It completes Channel 30-41, Recognition, with Gate 41, Contraction, in the Root, a Collective Channel. This is feeling that wants to be lived rather than described. Its fourth line, Burnout, is fixed in this cross, so the fire is real and so is the cost of letting it run without rest.
Gate 29: Saying Yes
Gate 29, Saying Yes, is the conscious Earth and sits in the Sacral. Its hexagram is The Abysmal. It completes Channel 29-46, Discovery, with Gate 46, The Determination of the Self, in the G Center. It is the commitment Gate, grounding the cross in the willingness to enter something fully. Its fourth line, Directness, is always here, so the yes tends to be given plainly, without a long preamble. It is a Collective Gate, so the commitment often has other people in it, and the partner Gate in the G Center ties that yes to a sense of where you belong.
Gate 34: Power
Gate 34, Power, is the Design Sun and the second Sacral Gate. Its hexagram is The Power of the Great. It completes Channel 20-34 with Gate 20, and the cross carries both, so the Channel is always whole. Its first line, The Bully, is fixed here: the raw force that pushes before it has been shaped. Below awareness, that force is part of how you move, and learning to shape it is much of the work.
Gate 20: The Now
Gate 20, The Now, is the Design Earth and the cross's only Throat Gate. Its hexagram is Contemplation. It completes Channel 20-34, the Channel of Charisma, with Gate 34. It grounds the cross in what is happening in this moment and in saying so. Its first line, Superficiality, is fixed in this cross, which means the first words may stay on the surface until the moment has been lived in a little longer.
Channel 20-34 in every chart
Gates 20 and 34 are both in this cross, so everyone who carries it has Channel 20-34 defined. That Channel joins the Sacral to the Throat, and the canon rule is plain: a defined Sacral with a motor connected to the Throat makes a Manifesting Generator. Everyone with Fates is a Manifesting Generator, and never a Reflector.
The Strategy for that Type is to respond, then inform before acting. Fates does not make that optional. It is built into the cross. What the cross does not fix is your Authority. That depends on whether the Solar Plexus is also defined in your chart, which Gate 30 can help with.
A yes and a feeling on the conscious side
The conscious pair, Gates 29 and 30, come from two different Centers. Saying Yes lives in the Sacral, the largest motor, and Recognition of Feelings lives in the Solar Plexus, which is a motor and an awareness Center. Both belong to the Collective circuit.
So the side of you that you know is one of commitment and feeling, while the side that works underneath, 34 and 20, is power and presence. You tend to meet the world with a plain yes and a lot of feeling, and only later learn how strongly the rest of you is already being read.
Three fixed lines with rough titles
Three of the four fixed lines have blunt names: Burnout, The Bully and Superficiality. They are not verdicts. Each marks the place where a strength tends to show its first rough edge. Burnout is feeling without rest, The Bully is force without shape, and Superficiality is speech without time.
Directness, the fourth, is the line that balances them. A plain yes costs less than a long hedge. Together the four lines suggest that the skill of Fates is shaping force, not removing it.
Why the Fates is a Juxtaposition cross
A fate that is fixed leaves little room to bargain with it. Fates holds one position for a whole life, and with Channel 20-34 always defined, even the Type is settled before anything else is chosen. Within that, the work is learning to answer well: to respond, to inform, and to rest before the fire does it for you. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.
The four lines of the Fates cross
A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Fates cross carries these four.
| Personality Sun: Gate 30.4 Burnout | Your feeling burns hot and true, and the practice is to rest before the fire does it for you. |
|---|---|
| Personality Earth: Gate 29.4 Directness | Your commitment is given directly, with a plain yes and little hedging about what you are agreeing to. |
| Design Sun: Gate 34.1 The Bully | Below awareness your power can arrive before it is shaped, and others feel the force first. |
| Design Earth: Gate 20.1 Superficiality | Your first words in a moment can stay on the surface until you have been in that moment a little longer. |
Living the Fates cross
At work
Fates suits work with a lot of motion in it: building, performing, teaching, coaching, anything that rewards energy and presence. The Manifesting Generator part asks that you respond to what is in front of you, then tell the people involved before you move. Watch for Burnout, and notice that saying yes quickly to everything is a cost.
In relationships
The cross can make you powerful company: warm, direct and strong. It can also leave a partner feeling run over before they have found their own pace. The Bully line is a reminder to slow down and ask. Tell the people close to you when you are about to change direction, as an informing step, not a request for permission.
In decisions
Fates fixes your Type but not your Authority. Respond first, then see whether your Sacral or your emotional wave is the one that speaks.
It fits people who respond well and move fast, with Authority still decided by the rest of your own chart. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Fates cross is misread
"Fates means my life is already decided"
"I can be a Reflector or a Projector with Fates"
"Fates is the same as the Left Angle Cross of Industry"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 30: When did you last rest before the fire made you?
- Gate 29: What did you say yes to recently, and did you know what you were joining?
- Gate 34: Where does your force arrive before you have shaped it, and who feels it first?
- Gate 20: What are you noticing in this moment that you have not said yet?

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Fates
What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Fates?
It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 20, 29, 30 and 34, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path built around Channel 20-34, with Gates 29 and 30 as the conscious pair.
What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Fates?
They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 30.4 Burnout as the Personality Sun, 29.4 Directness as the Personality Earth, 34.1 The Bully as the Design Sun, and 20.1 Superficiality as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.
What Type is everyone with Fates?
A Manifesting Generator. Gates 20 and 34 are both in the cross and form Channel 20-34, which joins the Sacral directly to the Throat. A defined Sacral with a motor connected to the Throat is the canon requirement for that Type.
Which Centers are always defined in Fates?
The Sacral and the Throat, through Channel 20-34. The Solar Plexus is not always defined. Gate 30 sits there, but it needs a completed Channel, such as 30-41 with Gate 41, to define the Center.
How do Gates 29 and 30 shape Fates beside Channel 20-34?
They are the conscious Earth and Sun, so they color what you know of yourself: a Sacral yes and a Solar Plexus feeling. Channel 20-34 works on the Design side, below awareness, and the two pairs come together in a single chart.
Does Fates mean my Authority is set as well?
No. The cross fixes the Type but not the Authority. A Manifesting Generator can have Sacral or Emotional Authority, depending on the rest of the chart and whether the Solar Plexus is defined.
