What is Authority in Human Design?
Human Design Authority is your personal decision-making system: the place in your body that knows what is correct for you. There are seven Authorities, and your chart has exactly one, set by which of your Centers are defined.
Think of it as an inner compass: your mind can map the options, but your Authority points to the one that is correct for you. Once you know it, choices come with less pressure and less second‑guessing.

How do you find your Human Design Authority?

How your chart picks your Authority
Your chart checks your defined Centers in a fixed order, and the first match is your Authority. A defined Solar Plexus always wins, whatever else is defined.
Authority by Type
Your Authority is personal, but your Type sets which Authorities are possible. Generators and Manifesting Generators are either Emotional or Sacral, every Reflector is Lunar, and Projectors have the widest range. Find your Type below to follow your decision-making path. Emotional is the most common Authority. Ego and Lunar are the rarest.
What is Human Design Authority?
Authority is your built-in decision-making system. It answers one simple question: How do I know what is correct for me? In Human Design, Authority is the inner process that helps you move toward choices that fit your actual design instead of choices made from fear, pressure, overthinking, or outside influence.
Most people are taught to decide from the mind: weigh pros and cons, try to predict outcomes, ask everyone else, then wonder why the decision still feels off. Emotional Authority

This is the most common Authority, appearing in Generators, Manifesting Generators, Manifestors, and Projectors with a defined Solar Plexus.

Ego / Will Authority

Ego Authority is about what you truly want and what you genuinely have the willpower to commit to. It is not about what you should do. It is about honest desire from the Heart/Ego Center. It appears only when the Heart is defined and the Solar Plexus, Sacral and Spleen are all undefined: in Manifestors, where the Heart connects to the Throat (Ego Manifested), and in a few Projectors, where it connects to the G Center (Ego Projected). Ego and Lunar are the rarest Authorities.

You tend to decide best by talking, reflecting, and letting the right spaces and people support your process. This Authority appears exclusively in Projectors with no defined inner Authority center.

Authority becomes powerful when you apply it to normal life, not just big concepts. The more you practice with everyday choices, the more natural aligned decision-making becomes.
With work and opportunities, check your Authority before committing. If the signal is not clear, pause. With relationships, do not decide from pressure. If your energy drops or your body tightens, treat it as "not yet." With spending, practice with smaller purchases first so you can learn what an aligned yes feels like. With timing, if you are Emotional or Lunar, "I'll get back to you" protects your clarity. Start by using your Authority on small decisions every day. Trust builds through repetition.

Ego and Lunar. Lunar belongs only to Reflectors, about 1% of people. Ego needs a defined Heart with the Solar Plexus, Sacral and Spleen all undefined, which happens only in some Manifestors (Ego Manifested) and in even fewer Projectors (Ego Projected).
Why does my mind disagree with my Authority?
Your mind is trained by fear, pressure, and conditioning. Authority operates through your body's wisdom. It is normal for the mind to resist at first. Practice with small decisions builds trust.
Can my Authority change over time?
No. Your Authority is a core part of your design determined by your birth chart. What changes is your ability to hear and trust the signal as you decondition.
