There are five Human Design Types: Manifestor, Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector and Reflector. Your Type is set by which Centers are defined in your chart, and it describes how your energy is built to meet life.
Think of the Types as roles on a team: Manifestors start things, Generators and Manifesting Generators build and keep them going, Projectors guide the builders, and Reflectors read the health of the whole team.

How do you find your Human Design Type?
Your Type is calculated from your birth date, birth time and birth place. A quiz cannot tell you, because your Type comes from where the planets were when you were born, not from how you describe yourself. How your chart decides your Type
Your Type is not a personality score. It comes from which of your nine Centers are defined (colored in) and how they connect. Two questions decide it: is your Sacral Center defined, and is a motor Center (the Sacral, Heart, Solar Plexus or Root) connected to your Throat through defined Channels?
Four Types or five? Jovian Archive, the home of the system Ra Uru Hu taught, counts four Types and treats the Manifesting Generator as a kind of Generator: both have a defined Sacral and the Strategy to respond. Most guides list five, because a Manifesting Generator also moves like a Manifestor. Both counts describe the same chart.
What are Human Design Types?
Your Type is the broad way your energy is built to operate and how your aura meets other people. It is the starting point of the whole chart: your Strategy shows how to meet life, and your Authority shows how to make decisions. Every Type has four parts:
Aura
The energy around you and how it meets people: open and enveloping, closed and repelling, focused and absorbing, or resistant and sampling.
Strategy
How you are built to meet life: to inform, to respond, to wait for the invitation, or to wait a lunar cycle.
Signature
The feeling that tells you that you are aligned: Peace, Satisfaction, Success or Surprise.
Not-Self Theme
The signal that you are forcing: Anger, Frustration, Bitterness or Disappointment. Not failure, just feedback.
Each Type also has its own energy rhythm. Generators and Manifesting Generators have consistent Sacral energy that renews each day. Manifestors work in initiating bursts followed by rest. Projectors have focused, perceptive energy that works best in shorter, targeted sessions. Reflectors experience energy fluidly, depending on their environment. Knowing yours stops you from living on someone else's energy schedule.
The Manifestor: The Initiator
Manifestors are here to initiate. About 9 percent of people, they can start things on their own, act on an inner urge and set others in motion. Their aura is closed and repelling, which gives them room to move independently, and people often feel their impact before they understand it.
That is why the Manifestor Strategy is to inform before acting: not asking permission, but giving the people affected a clear heads up so there is less resistance. When they inform and move, they feel their Signature, Peace. When they are blocked, controlled or caught in resistance, they feel their Not-Self Theme, Anger.

The Generator: The Builder
Generators are the builders of the Human Design system. Together with Manifesting Generators they are about 70 percent of people, and Generators alone about 35 percent. Their defined Sacral gives them steady, renewable life force for work they love, and their open, enveloping aura draws the right work and people to them over time.
A Generator is not built to force life from the mind. The Strategy is to respond: let life bring something to you, then notice your gut's yes or no, often a sound before it is a thought. Used this way, their energy brings Satisfaction. Committing to what the gut never said yes to brings Frustration.

The Manifesting Generator: The Multi-Passionate
Manifesting Generators have the defined Sacral of a Generator plus a motor connected to the Throat, so they respond like Generators and can move with a Manifestor's speed. About 35 percent of people, they are often multi-passionate and efficient, and they may skip steps they later go back for.
Their Strategy still starts with the gut: to respond, then inform before acting. Their aura is open and enveloping, like a Generator's. Moving in that order brings Satisfaction. Jumping in before the response comes, or without telling the people affected, brings Frustration.

The Projector: The Guide
Projectors, about 21 percent of people, are here to guide. With no defined Sacral and no motor connected to the Throat, their gift is not constant output but focused insight: seeing what is working, what is not, and how people and systems could work better. Their aura is focused and absorbing, taking in the person in front of them deeply.
Guidance lands when it is asked for, so the Projector Strategy is to wait for the invitation, above all for the big things: work, love and where to live. Recognized and invited, they feel Success. Pushing guidance on people who did not ask brings Bitterness.

The Reflector: The Mirror
Reflectors are rare, about 1 percent of people, and have no defined Centers at all: all nine are undefined. They sample and mirror the people and places around them, which makes them the ones who sense how healthy a community or an environment really is. Their aura is resistant and sampling, tasting the energy around them without taking it on.
The Reflector Strategy for big decisions is to wait a lunar cycle, about 28 days, talking it through along the way. In the right place, among the right people, they feel Surprise. Rushed, or in the wrong environment, they feel Disappointment.
