The Duality 1 (20/34 | 37/40)

With The Now as your conscious Sun, your purpose starts in the present: you are here to say and do what fits this moment, and Power, the conscious Earth, gives it the Sacral force to follow through. On the Design side Friendship is the Sun and Aloneness the Earth, so the pull toward belonging runs underneath, with time apart as its ground.

The Duality 2 (34/20 | 40/37)

With Power as your conscious Sun, strength is the theme: you find your purpose in what you can build and keep going, and The Now, the Earth, keeps that strength tied to what is real today. On the Design side Aloneness is the Sun and Friendship the Earth, so the need for space leads and care for people is the ground you stand on.

Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.

Gate 20: The Now

Gate 20, The Now, is a Throat Gate, so it speaks. Its hexagram is Contemplation, and its lines run from Superficiality and The Dogmatist to Realism and Wisdom, from saying the first thing to saying what has been lived. It completes Channel 20-34 with Gate 34 in the Sacral, and in this cross Gate 34 is always there. It can also join Gate 10 in the G Center and Gate 57 in the Spleen. As a Sun it makes your purpose speaking and acting in the present. As an Earth it grounds your force in what you can say plainly.

Gate 34: Power

Gate 34, Power, sits in the Sacral, the largest motor, and its hexagram is The Power of the Great. Its lines go from The Bully and Momentum to Triumph and Common sense, which shows both what raw strength can do and what keeps it useful. It completes Channel 20-34 with Gate 20 in the Throat, so here the Channel is whole. It can also join Gate 10 in the G Center and Gate 57 in the Spleen. As a Sun it makes strength your theme. As an Earth it gives your voice a body to stand on.

Gate 37: Friendship

Gate 37, Friendship, sits in the Solar Plexus, the Center of emotions and waves, and its hexagram is The Family. It is on the Tribal circuit. It completes Channel 37-40 with Gate 40 in the Heart, so in this cross that Channel is always whole. Its lines move from The Mother/Father and Responsibility to Leadership by example, Love and Purpose, the roles people take in a close group. On the Design side it is care for family and friends that works below awareness, felt as warmth you did not plan.

Gate 40: Aloneness

Gate 40, Aloneness, sits in the Heart, the smallest motor, and its hexagram is Deliverance. It completes Channel 37-40 with Gate 37 in the Solar Plexus, a design of being a part seeking a whole. Its lines run from Recuperation and Resoluteness to Rigidity and Decapitation, which hints at what giving without rest can cost. On the Design side it shows as a quiet need for time apart. As a Sun it ties your willpower to rest. As an Earth it is the part of you that withdraws to restore what you give.

Two Channels that every Duality has defined

Both pairs in this cross are complete Channels. Gates 20 and 34 make Channel 20-34, Charisma, and Gates 37 and 40 make Channel 37-40, Community. Every rotation carries all four Gates, so everyone with this cross has both Channels defined, whatever the rest of the chart looks like.

Channel 20-34 joins the Sacral straight to the Throat, which makes you a Manifesting Generator. Channel 37-40 defines the Solar Plexus, so your Authority is Emotional. The cross settles your Type and your Authority before anything else in the chart gets a vote. The Solar Plexus runs in waves, so big choices want time, which is a gentle brake on a Type that likes to move fast.

Three motors and one way out

Of the four Centers in this cross, three are motors: the Sacral, the Heart and the Solar Plexus. The fourth is the Throat, where everything you say or do leaves you. That makes the cross mostly engine with a single exit.

The two Channels use that exit differently. Channel 20-34 runs from the Sacral directly into the Throat, so charisma gets out easily. Channel 37-40 joins the Heart to the Solar Plexus and does not touch the Throat, so what lives there, the care and the need to belong, stays inside until you decide to say it. People often see your energy long before they hear about your feelings.

One Channel for yourself, one for the group

The two Channels sit on different circuits. Charisma is on the Individual circuit, and Community is on the Tribal circuit. The names of the Gates carry the same tension: Gate 37 is Friendship, and Gate 40 is Aloneness. One needs people, and the other needs space.

That is the duality in the name. A Left Angle cross does not settle it by choosing a side. It uses other people to show you where the balance sits: the friend who lets you disappear for a day, the group that notices when you have been gone too long.

Why the Duality is a Left Angle cross

A Left Angle cross is transpersonal: the purpose is worked out through other people, and your life tends to be shaped by who you meet. For Duality that means your charisma becomes direction only when it meets people, and your sense of community becomes real only when someone is on the other end of it. The Left Angle goes with four Profiles: 5/1, 5/2, 6/2, 6/3. With one of these, these four Gates make the Left Angle cross; with a 4/1 Profile the same Gates make a Juxtaposition cross instead.

Living the Duality cross

At work

Duality people tend to do well in work that has both motion and people in it: a job where you build or perform, and a team that counts on you. As a Manifesting Generator you can start many things and respond to what shows up. Because your Authority is emotional, give big offers a night or two before answering. Notice the days you want to be alone after a lot of contact. That is Gate 40 asking for its share.

In relationships

In relationships the cross can look hot and cold: warm, funny, present, and then needing to disappear. People who love you can mistake the second for rejection. Say it early, that you need time and that it is not about them. The best partners and friends are the ones who let you leave and welcome you back, because this cross works through exactly that kind of person.

In decisions

Your Authority is fixed by this cross, so a decision never has to be made in the heat of the moment. Respond to what is in front of you, then let the emotional wave rise and settle before you commit. Clarity tends to arrive after the wave, not during it.

Answer with your Strategy and your Emotional Authority, and let both Channels have their say: the energy to do, and the need to belong. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
