What is Gate 40 in Human Design?
Gate 40 is the Gate of Aloneness. It carries the Heart Center's willpower directed toward working for and providing resources to the tribe. This is the Gate of the provider, who works hard, delivers, then withdraws to regenerate. Its aloneness is not loneliness: a person with nothing left cannot give.
Gate 40 lives in the Heart Center, the Center of willpower and worth and the smallest motor in the chart. Gate 40 runs in cycles: it powers up, delivers, then shuts down to recover.
Its I Ching hexagram is Deliverance, the moment the storm passes and relief arrives. Gate 40 sits at that turning point: the will to push through difficulty, joined to the sense to rest once the difficulty has passed.

Deliverance through a clean cut. With time you gain the authority to cut off, for good, the patterns and outdated bargains that held you back, and to commit only to what serves.
Channel 40-37: The Channel of Community
Gate 40 reaches toward Gate 37, Friendship, in the Solar Plexus Center. When both Gates are active, they form Channel 37-40, the Channel of Community, joining the Heart and the Solar Plexus. It is part of the Tribal Circuit, Ego sub-circuit, and it is Gate 40's one Channel.
Gate 40 brings the work and the resources; Gate 37 brings the warmth and the sense of how they are shared. A good bargain in this Channel is never struck on impulse. It is considered over time.

Channel 37-40 is defined, and so are both of its Centers, the Heart and the Solar Plexus. Both are motors, so the will to provide and the warmth of community have steady fuel, and support shows up as working side by side rather than as things money can buy.

Gate 40 is a hanging Gate. You have the will to work and provide, but not a fixed sense of where and how to share what you produce, so you may search for the right friendships and the right group to offer it to. Meeting someone with Gate 37 can complete the Channel for a while.
