Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains

The Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 37, 40, 5 and 35, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about give and take: belonging to a group, organizing fair terms, keeping a steady rhythm and asking for change.

Simple way to think about it: Bargains is the handshake at the end of a negotiation. Every term was argued out before it, and the handshake adds nothing new, yet nothing counts as agreed until it happens.

Look for the line that reads Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains. The four numbers in brackets are the Gates of your Personality Sun and Earth, then your Design Sun and Earth, for example (37/40 | 5/35). They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.

The Bargains cross on the BodyGraph

Four Centers hold the four Gates. Gate 37 is in the Solar Plexus and Gate 40 in the Heart, and together they form Channel 37-40, so that Channel is defined in every chart with this cross. Gate 5 is in the Sacral and Gate 35 in the Throat. The conscious pair, 37 and 40, is the pair the Right Angle Cross of Planning carries; the Design pair, 5 and 35, comes from the Right Angle Cross of Consciousness.

Friendship is your conscious Sun and Aloneness your conscious Earth, so the pull between belonging and standing apart is on the side you know. Fixed Rhythms and Change run on the Design side: a steady pace and a pull toward progress that others may notice in you before you do.

The four Gates in plain language

Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.

Gate 37: Friendship

Gate 37, Friendship, is the conscious Sun and sits in the Solar Plexus. Its hexagram is The Family, and it belongs to the Tribal circuit. It completes Channel 37-40, Community, with Gate 40 in the Heart, a Design of Being a Part Seeking a Whole. Its lines run from The Mother/Father to Purpose. The fourth, Leadership by example, is the one every Bargains chart carries here: a group is led by what you do, not by what you announce.

Gate 40: Aloneness

Gate 40, Aloneness, is the conscious Earth and sits in the Heart, the Center of willpower and worth. Its hexagram is Deliverance. It is the other half of Channel 37-40, so it grounds the cross in will and worth, the sense of what you give and what you are owed. Its lines run from Recuperation to Decapitation. In this cross it is always line 4, Organization: the will goes into arranging how a group's give and take is kept.

Gate 5: Fixed Rhythms

Gate 5, Fixed Rhythms, is the Design Sun and sits in the Sacral, the largest motor, renewing daily. Its hexagram is Waiting, and it belongs to the Collective circuit. It completes Channel 5-15, Rhythm, with Gate 15 in the G Center, a Design of Being in the Flow. Its first line, Perseverance, is fixed in this cross, so below awareness there is a steady staying power. The terms you agreed to are kept because you keep turning up.

Gate 35: Change

Gate 35, Change, is the Design Earth and the cross's only Throat Gate, so it is the voice. Its hexagram is Progress. It completes Channel 35-36, Transitoriness, with Gate 36 in the Solar Plexus, a manifesting Channel that joins a motor to the Throat. Its first line, Humility, is fixed here: the voice that asks for change begins by admitting it does not hold every card. That is what keeps a bargain a bargain and not a demand.

A Channel that every chart with this cross carries

Gates 37 and 40 are both in this cross, as its conscious Sun and Earth, so together they make Channel 37-40, Community, in every chart that carries Bargains. That fixes two things before anything else about the chart is known. The Solar Plexus is defined, and the Authority is Emotional.

It also means nobody with this cross is a Reflector. What it does not fix is the rest of the chart: the Type and the other Channels still depend on the whole map. The cross gives you a settled core of feeling and belonging, and Emotional Authority works through waves, so a clear answer tends to come with time.

Three motors and one Throat Gate

Three of the four Gates sit in motor Centers: Gate 37 in the Solar Plexus, Gate 40 in the Heart and Gate 5 in the Sacral. The fourth, Gate 35, is in the Throat. The cross holds a great deal of drive and exactly one place for it to be spoken.

Gate 35 can complete Channel 35-36 with Gate 36, which joins the Solar Plexus straight to the Throat. That is an option, not a given: it depends on whether Gate 36 is also in the chart. When it is, feeling can reach speech and action directly. When it is not, the voice of Change waits for another route.

The tribe on one side, the wider pattern on the other

The conscious pair is Tribal: Gates 37 and 40 belong to the Tribal circuit, and their Channel sits in its Ego group. The Design pair is Collective: Gates 5 and 35 belong to the Collective circuit, through Channel 5-15 and Channel 35-36.

What you are aware of is about your own group, while what runs below awareness is a pace and a push for change that reach past it. A bargain here has two layers: the terms agreed inside the circle, and the rhythm and progress the wider world needs from them.

Why the Bargains is a Juxtaposition cross

Bargains does not shift between roles or rotate through four versions. The Gates stay where they are, the four lines stay where they are, and that fixity is the point: one position on give and take held for a whole life, with the task of getting good at the terms instead of changing them. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.

The four lines of the Bargains cross

A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Bargains cross carries these four.

Personality Sun: Gate 37.4 Leadership by exampleYou lead a group by doing what you ask of others, so the example you set is the proof of every term.
Personality Earth: Gate 40.4 OrganizationYour will goes into organizing how a group runs, setting up the arrangements that keep give and take fair.
Design Sun: Gate 5.1 PerseveranceBelow awareness you keep returning to what you agreed to, which others read as steadiness and reliability.
Design Earth: Gate 35.1 HumilityYour voice for change begins humbly, so asking for something new comes without a show of power.

Living the Bargains cross

At work

Bargains suits work built on agreements: partnerships, team roles, anything where several people need to know who gives what. The Heart and Solar Plexus give you willpower and a feeling for the group's mood, and the Sacral Gate gives a rhythm you can keep up. The risk is carrying the group's terms alone. Say what you can give and what you ask in return before the work begins, not after resentment has built up.

In relationships

In close relationships the cross shows up as an unspoken ledger: what each person gives, what each is owed, and who is leading by example. Because Channel 37-40 is always defined, your feelings are part of every agreement. Name the terms out loud, including the ones you would rather leave unsaid.

In decisions

Your Authority is Emotional in every chart with this cross, so no choice is best made at a single high or low. Let the wave settle, let a day or two pass, and notice whether you still want the deal when it is neither exciting nor frightening.

Bargains describes the terms you work out; your Type and Emotional Authority decide which ones you accept. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.

When the Bargains cross is misread

"Bargains means I should always compromise"

Gate 40's fixed line is Organization, so the cross is about arranging fair terms, and a fair term can be a firm no. Compromise is one tool, not the point.

"This cross decides my Type"

It fixes less than that. Channel 37-40 defines the Solar Plexus and makes the Authority Emotional, and it rules out Reflector, but the rest of the chart still sets the Type.

"It is the same as the Left Angle Cross of Migration"

The four Gates are the same, but the Profile is not. Bargains comes only with 4/1 and fixes all four lines. Migration is the same Gates lived with a 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 or 6/3 Profile, worked out through other people.

Questions to sit with

One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.

  1. Gate 37: Where in your family or team do people follow what you do rather than what you say?
  2. Gate 40: Which terms are you carrying that nobody has actually agreed to?
  3. Gate 5: What have you kept up for a long time that no one has noticed?
  4. Gate 35: What would you ask for if asking did not feel like admitting weakness?

Each one holds Gates of this cross or completes a Channel with it.

A Human Design reading is written from your exact chart, so it shows how your four fixed lines work with your Type and Emotional Authority, and whether Gate 15 or Gate 36 completes a Channel for you. Nothing is guessed from the cross name alone.

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains

What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains?

It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 37, 40, 5 and 35, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about give and take: belonging to a group, organizing fair terms, keeping a steady rhythm and asking for change.

What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Bargains?

They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 37.4 Leadership by example as the Personality Sun, 40.4 Organization as the Personality Earth, 5.1 Perseverance as the Design Sun, and 35.1 Humility as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.

Does everyone with Bargains have Emotional Authority?

Yes. Gates 37 and 40 are the conscious Sun and Earth, so Channel 37-40 is defined in every chart with this cross. That defines the Solar Plexus, which gives Emotional Authority. It also means no one with this cross is a Reflector.

Which Gate gives Bargains its voice?

Gate 35, Change, is the only Gate of the four in the Throat and the Design Earth. With Gate 36 in the Solar Plexus it completes Channel 35-36, a manifesting Channel, if Gate 36 is also in the chart.

What is Gate 5 doing in a cross about community?

Gate 5, Fixed Rhythms, sits in the Sacral and is the Design Sun. Its fixed line, Perseverance, gives the cross staying power, and it can complete Channel 5-15, Rhythm, with Gate 15 in the G Center.

Does Bargains have anything to do with money?

Not in itself. The canon describes its Gates as Friendship, Aloneness, Fixed Rhythms and Change, with lines about leadership, organization, perseverance and humility. Read the name as ongoing give and take, not as a sign about finances.
