Left Angle Cross of The Plane
The Left Angle Cross of The Plane is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 36, 6, 10 and 15. It is about staying steady beside other people's storms: emotional crisis and friction on the conscious side, the self and its extremes on the Design side, all worked out in company.
Simple way to think about it: Think of the friend who stays level when a family argument heats up. They do not stop the weather. They are simply the one steady spot in the room, and people end up standing near them.

The two rotations of the Plane cross
Find the rotation whose first number matches your Personality Sun. The quarter it sits in gives the rotation its number, 1 or 2.
The Plane 1 (36/6 | 10/15)
With Crisis as your conscious Sun, the emotional wave is the first thing you notice: you are here to meet turbulence out in the open, and Friction, the conscious Earth, shows you where it turns into conflict between people. The Design side, Behavior of the Self and Extremes, shapes how you carry yourself through it before you decide to.
The Plane 2 (6/36 | 15/10)
Here Friction is the conscious theme: you feel where people rub against each other and what it takes to settle it. Crisis, the conscious Earth, gives that friction an emotional depth. Underneath, Extremes and the Behavior of the Self change places on the Design side, so others may read your manner before you do.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 36: Crisis
The Solar Plexus, the Center of emotions and waves, is home to Gate 36, Crisis. Its hexagram is The Darkening of the Light. It completes Channel 35-36 with Gate 35 in the Throat, called Transitoriness, and that is a manifesting Channel: a motor joined straight to the Throat. As a Sun it makes your purpose a matter of how you meet emotional turbulence in the open. As an Earth it grounds another theme in the fact that crisis is part of the road. Its lines run from Resistance to Justice.
Gate 6: Friction
Gate 6, Friction, is the other Solar Plexus Gate in this cross. Its hexagram is Conflict, and it belongs to the Tribal circuit. It completes Channel 6-59, Mating, with Gate 59 in the Sacral. As a Sun it makes friction between people the subject you are here to understand. As an Earth it adds an edge to whatever else you are working on. Its lines move from Retreat and The Guerilla to Arbitration and The Peacemaker, so the same Gate can start a fight or end one.
Gate 10: The Behavior of the Self
Gate 10, The Behavior of the Self, sits in the G Center, the Center of identity, direction and love. Its hexagram is Treading, the question of how you walk through the world. It is unusual in having three partners, so it can complete Channel 10-20 with the Throat, Channel 10-34 with the Sacral or Channel 10-57 with the Spleen. As a Sun it makes your manner your message. As an Earth it steadies the rest of the cross with a sense of how you carry yourself.
Gate 15: Extremes
Gate 15, Extremes, is the second G Center Gate. Its hexagram is Modesty, which seems an odd match for the name until you see that both are about range: how far a person goes and how far is enough. It completes Channel 5-15, Rhythm, with Gate 5 in the Sacral, a Collective Channel. As an Earth it keeps the cross honest about proportion. Its lines run from Duty through Sensitivity to Self-defense.
Feeling on one side, direction on the other
All four Gates sit in just two Centers. Gates 36 and 6 are in the Solar Plexus, which holds emotions and waves and is both a motor and an awareness Center. Gates 10 and 15 are in the G Center, which holds identity, direction and love, and the sense of being in the right place.
In both rotations the conscious pair is emotional and the Design pair is about the self. What you feel and what you are walking toward are the two halves of the cross. Because no Channel is formed by the cross's own four Gates, it does not fix your Type or Authority. Those come from the rest of your chart.
Gate 10 can reach three different Centers
Most Gates have one partner. Gate 10 has three. With Gate 20 it makes Channel 10-20, Awakening, to the Throat. With Gate 34 it makes Channel 10-34, Exploration, to the Sacral. With Gate 57 it makes Channel 10-57, Perfected Form, to the Spleen. All three belong to the Individual circuit.
For a Left Angle cross that matters. Which of these Channels forms depends on who you meet, since the partner Gate has to come from your own chart or from another person. The same Design-side Gate can show up as a voice, as energy or as instinct, depending on who is standing next to you.
Collective, Individual and Tribal in one cross
Gates 36 and 15 are Collective, Gate 10 is Individual and Gate 6 is Tribal. Three circuits in one cross suits a purpose worked out among others: the Collective Gates point at the group, Gate 10 at the self and Gate 6 at the family or clan.
The Channel that stands out is 35-36. Gate 36 is the only Gate here that can join a motor straight to the Throat, so the rawest part of the cross, the emotional wave, is also the part with a direct route to expression.
Why the Plane is a Left Angle cross
A Left Angle cross is transpersonal: the purpose is worked out through other people, and your life tends to be shaped by who you meet. For The Plane that means crisis and friction are rarely private. They happen between you and someone else, and what you learn comes from how you stay in the room. The Left Angle goes with four Profiles: 5/1, 5/2, 6/2, 6/3. With one of these, these four Gates make the Left Angle cross; with a 4/1 Profile the same Gates make a Juxtaposition cross instead.
Your Sun line: how the line colors this cross
Your Personality Sun has a line as well as a Gate: the number after the dot. 36.5 means Gate 36, Line 5. Open your rotation below and find your line. The line title comes from the Rave I Ching; the sentence after it is how that line tends to color the Plane cross.
Plane 1: Personality Sun in Gate 36, Crisis
| 36.1 Resistance | You meet turmoil by holding your ground first, and that early resistance buys you time before you answer. |
|---|---|
| 36.2 Support | Your steadiness helps others through their crises, and you do best when someone is holding you up as well. |
| 36.3 Transition | You learn to move between emotional states without staying stuck in the last one, and others borrow that skill. |
| 36.4 Espionage | You watch the situation quietly before you step in, and you learn what is really going on before you take a side. |
| 36.5 The Underground | You work out of sight for long stretches, and others may not see what the crisis has cost or built in you. |
| 36.6 Justice | You hold onto a sense of what is fair when emotions run high, and others lean on that when they cannot find it. |
Plane 2: Personality Sun in Gate 6, Friction
| 6.1 Retreat | You step back when friction starts, and that distance lets you decide whether the fight is yours at all. |
|---|---|
| 6.2 The Guerilla | You push back in small, quiet ways rather than head on, choosing your moments and rarely announcing them. |
| 6.3 Allegiance | You stand with the people you have chosen, and friction tests who you are loyal to and why. |
| 6.4 Triumph | You can win an argument and still lose something, so the cross asks what the win is actually for. |
| 6.5 Arbitration | Others bring you their disputes, and your part is to hear both sides before anything gets settled. |
| 6.6 The Peacemaker | You look for the point where friction can settle, and your calm helps others stop fighting without losing face. |
Living the Plane cross
At work
People with The Plane are often the ones a team turns to when tempers rise: the colleague who stays level in a tense meeting or who sits between two departments. Work goes best when that role is something you choose, with room to step out. Being the permanent referee wears down the very steadiness that made you useful.
In relationships
In relationships the cross shows up in how you handle disagreement. Close people bring out your emotional waves and your sense of how you want to behave. Notice whether you are keeping the peace or only avoiding the fight. The Peacemaker line and the Retreat line can look alike from the outside.
In decisions
The Plane gives your life a theme, not a rule for each choice. Do not decide in the middle of an emotional high or low. Let the wave pass and see what is still true.
Answer with your Type and your inner Authority, and let your steadiness come from choices that were truly yours. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Plane cross is misread
"The Plane means I am always the calm one"
"Crisis and Friction mean my life is conflict"
"Extremes means I have to live at the edges"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 36: What is the last crisis you stayed steady through, and who was standing next to you when you did?
- Gate 6: Where is there friction in your life right now, and is it yours to settle or only yours to witness?
- Gate 10: If someone watched how you behave for a day, what would they say you stand for?
- Gate 15: Where have you taken something to an extreme lately, and what would enough look like?

FAQ: Left Angle Cross of The Plane
What is the Left Angle Cross of The Plane?
It is a Left Angle Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 36, 6, 10 and 15. Its theme is meeting emotional crisis and friction steadily, with a Design side about the self, all worked out through other people.
Which Plane rotation do I have?
Look at the four numbers after the cross name on your chart. 36/6 | 10/15 is The Plane 1, with Crisis as your Personality Sun. 6/36 | 15/10 is The Plane 2, with Friction as your Personality Sun.
What do the hexagrams Treading and Modesty say about The Plane?
Gate 10 carries Treading and Gate 15 carries Modesty, and both sit in the G Center. They are opposites and the Design pair. Treading can reach the Throat, the Sacral or the Spleen, while Modesty reaches only the Sacral, through Channel 5-15.
Does The Plane give me Emotional Authority?
Not by itself. Two of its Gates are in the Solar Plexus, but Authority depends on which Centers your Channels define. The cross has no Channel of its own, so check your chart for a defined Solar Plexus before assuming Emotional Authority.
How do Conflict and The Darkening of the Light show up in The Plane?
Gate 6, Friction, carries the hexagram Conflict, and Gate 36, Crisis, carries The Darkening of the Light. They are opposites and the conscious pair, and both Gates sit in the Solar Plexus. The cross opens on two sides of one emotional Center.
Are the two Plane rotations in different quarters?
Yes. The Plane 1 sits in the quarter of Initiation, where purpose is fulfilled through Mind. The Plane 2 sits in the quarter of Duality, where purpose is fulfilled through Bonding. The quarter follows your conscious Sun Gate.
