Juxtaposition Cross of Conflict

The Juxtaposition Cross of Conflict is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 6, 10, 15 and 36, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path built on friction and crisis: two Solar Plexus Gates on the surface and two G Center Gates of behavior and extremes beneath.

Simple way to think about it: Conflict is the grindstone in a workshop. Nothing is meant to stay as rough as it arrived, and the blade comes out sharp only because something pressed against it.

They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.

The Conflict cross on the BodyGraph

Only two Centers hold the four Gates. The Solar Plexus has Gates 6 and 36, and the G Center has Gates 10 and 15. The conscious pair, 6 and 36, is the pair the Right Angle Cross of Eden carries. The Design pair, 15 and 10, comes from the Right Angle Cross of The Vessel of Love.

Friction is your conscious Sun and Crisis your conscious Earth, so both Solar Plexus Gates sit on the side you know. You feel the strain and the pressure directly. Extremes and The Behavior of the Self run on the Design side, which is why others may see a steadiness in how you carry yourself before you notice it.

The four Gates in plain language

Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.

Gate 6: Friction

Gate 6, Friction, is the conscious Sun and sits in the Solar Plexus. Its hexagram is called Conflict, which is the word this cross uses for its name. It completes Channel 6-59, the Channel of Mating, with Gate 59, Sexuality, in the Sacral, a Tribal Channel that joins two motors. Friction here is not a fault. It is the contact that happens when one person gets close to another. Its fourth line, Triumph, is fixed in this cross, so the strain is built to end in a result you can claim.

Gate 36: Crisis

Gate 36, Crisis, is the conscious Earth and the second Solar Plexus Gate. Its hexagram is The Darkening of the Light. It completes Channel 35-36, Transitoriness, with Gate 35, Change, in the Throat, and that is a manifesting Channel: a motor joined straight to the Throat. Crisis grounds the cross in experience that has not resolved yet. Its fourth line, Espionage, is always here, so the usual response is to watch quietly and learn what is really going on before anyone is told.

Gate 15: Extremes

Gate 15, Extremes, is the Design Sun, in the G Center. Its hexagram is Modesty. It completes Channel 5-15, Rhythm, with Gate 5, Fixed Rhythms, in the Sacral, a Collective Channel. Lived below awareness, it is a willingness to go to either end of a range while keeping a steady line underneath. Its first line, Duty, is fixed in this cross, which gives the extremes an anchor: a plain sense of what is yours to do.

Gate 10: The Behavior of the Self

Gate 10, The Behavior of the Self, is the Design Earth and the second G Center Gate. Its hexagram is Treading: how you carry yourself across the ground. It is the only Gate in the cross with three Channels, 10-20, 10-34 and 10-57, all in the Individual circuit. Its first line, Modesty, is fixed here, so the behavior underneath the conflict is unassuming. You do not make a show of how you handle things.

Emotion on the surface, identity underneath

Both conscious Gates, 6 and 36, are in the Solar Plexus, and both Design Gates, 15 and 10, are in the G Center. So the side of you that you know is a feeling side, and the side that works below awareness is about identity and direction.

That order matters. The pressure in this cross shows up as emotion first. Only later, and often through other people, do you notice how steadily you move through it. You may see the heat in themselves before they see the direction.

The Solar Plexus twice, and what that does not fix

The Solar Plexus is both a motor and an awareness Center, and this cross puts two Gates there on the conscious side. That is a strong emotional theme. It is not an Authority. Gates alone do not define a Center: Emotional Authority needs a defined Solar Plexus, and that takes a completed Channel into it, such as 6-59 or 35-36.

Whether you have one depends on Gate 59 or Gate 35 being in your chart. The cross by itself fixes no Channel, no Type and no Authority. What it does fix is the fourth lines, Triumph and Espionage, which describe how the strain tends to be handled: patience and quiet observation.

Gate 10 and its three possible Channels

Gate 10 can complete three Channels: 10-20 with Gate 20, The Now, in the Throat; 10-34 with Gate 34, Power, in the Sacral; and 10-57 with Gate 57, Intuitive Clarity, in the Spleen. All three belong to the Individual circuit, and none is defined by the cross alone.

So one fixed Gate in your Design opens onto three different parts of the chart. Which door your behavior goes through depends on the rest of your design, and a Human Design reading can show which of the three, if any, you actually have.

Why the Conflict is a Juxtaposition cross

Conflict does not ask you to find a calmer path. Its position is fixed: friction and crisis on the surface, steady behavior underneath, all of it held by the 4/1 Profile. The work is not to remove the tension but to learn which tension is yours to carry and which belongs to someone else. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.

The four lines of the Conflict cross

A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Conflict cross carries these four.

Personality Sun: Gate 6.4 TriumphYour friction tends to end in a result you can claim, once the strain has been seen through to the end.
Personality Earth: Gate 36.4 EspionageYour crises are met by watching quietly first, learning what is really happening before you act or speak.
Design Sun: Gate 15.1 DutyBelow awareness you hold a plain sense of duty, a steady idea of what is yours to do, even in the extremes.
Design Earth: Gate 10.1 ModestyYour behavior underneath is unassuming, and you find your way without putting yourself forward first.

Living the Conflict cross

At work

Conflict suits work where tension is part of the job: mediation, negotiation, emergency response, editing, anything that sits between people who disagree. Espionage suggests your best move is to observe before you step in, and Duty suggests you do well when the job is clear. Be careful of taking on other people's disputes that are not yours.

In relationships

Close relationships can feel like the main stage for Friction. Two Solar Plexus Gates mean feelings arrive strongly, and Triumph asks that the strain be seen through to the end rather than dropped halfway. Say what is happening before it builds, and give the other person room to watch and learn too.

In decisions

Strain is not a signal to decide. Let your Type and Authority make the choice, and use the cross to see what the pressure is about.

It fits people who find themselves between others when things get tense, with the decision left to your own Strategy and Authority. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.

When the Conflict cross is misread

"Conflict means my life will be full of arguments"

Gate 6's fixed fourth line is Triumph. The friction is built to end in something you can stand behind, and Gate 36's Espionage means the first move is usually to watch, not to fight.

"Two Solar Plexus Gates give me Emotional Authority"

Gates alone do not define a Center. You need a completed Channel into the Solar Plexus, such as 6-59 or 35-36, and the cross by itself fixes none.

"Conflict and The Plane are the same cross"

They share four Gates, but not the Profile. Conflict comes only with 4/1 and is a fixed path. The Left Angle Cross of The Plane is lived with the 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 or 6/3.

Questions to sit with

One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.

  1. Gate 6: Where is there friction in your life right now that you have not yet seen through to the end?
  2. Gate 36: What crisis are you watching quietly, and what has it taught you so far?
  3. Gate 15: Which duty do you keep without being asked, and is it still yours?
  4. Gate 10: How do you carry yourself when no one is watching?

Each one holds Gates of this cross or completes a Channel with it.

A Human Design reading is built from your exact chart, so it shows how your four fixed lines work with your Type, Authority and defined Channels, and whether Gate 59, 35, 5, 20, 34 or 57 completes a Channel for you. Nothing is guessed from the cross name alone.

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Conflict

What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Conflict?

It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 6, 10, 15 and 36, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It describes a fixed path through friction and crisis, with two Solar Plexus Gates on the surface and two G Center Gates beneath.

What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Conflict?

They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 6.4 Triumph as the Personality Sun, 36.4 Espionage as the Personality Earth, 15.1 Duty as the Design Sun, and 10.1 Modesty as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.

Why do the Gates of Conflict sit in only two Centers?

Because the cross takes two opposite pairs. Gates 6 and 36 both belong to the Solar Plexus, and Gates 15 and 10 both belong to the G Center. That gives it a simple shape: feeling above, identity below.

How does the Solar Plexus shape Conflict?

It puts the emotional theme on the side you know. The Solar Plexus is a motor and an awareness Center, so strain, waves and pressure are felt directly. The cross alone does not define it, though. A Channel such as 6-59 or 35-36 would.

What does Gate 10 add that Gates 6, 15 and 36 do not?

Range. Gates 6, 15 and 36 each complete one Channel, but Gate 10 can complete three: 10-20, 10-34 and 10-57. It is the Design Earth, so that range works below awareness, as how you carry yourself.

Is Conflict a cross about fighting?

No. The name describes friction, not hostility. Its conscious fourth lines, Triumph and Espionage, show a style of quiet observation that ends in a result, and the Design side is marked by Duty and Modesty.
