What is Channel 35-36 in Human Design?
Channel 35-36 is the Channel of Transitoriness, the Design of a Jack of All Trades. It is a creative channel of the Sensing circuit: the mechanism that sets aside Logic's caution and drives you into new experiences just to find out what they feel like. Through trial and error across many areas of life, you build a breadth of experience whose wisdom is meant for the collective.
The Channel runs from the Solar Plexus Center, a motor and the seat of emotion, to the Throat Center, where everything is expressed and acted on. Because a motor reaches the Throat, this is a manifesting channel. You don't just dream about change. You speak it into being and then walk through the door.
Because it defines the Solar Plexus, Emotional Authority applies whenever this Channel is defined. Which experiences you enter is decided over time, once the emotional wave has settled. The manifesting power is real, but the clarity comes first.
The two gates of Channel 35-36
Gate 36: Crisis
In the Solar Plexus Center; its I Ching hexagram is The Darkening of the Light. Gate 36 is the emotional drive from inexperience to experience. It feels its own inexperience as inadequacy, and that pressure pushes it into dark, unknown emotional territory. It can even stir up a crisis just to get things moving.
Gate 35: Change
In the Throat Center; its I Ching hexagram is Progress. Gate 35 is the voice of experience: "I've been there. I've done that. I've felt that. What's new?" It names what kind of change is needed next and manifests it through speech and action.
The energy flow
Energy moves from Gate 36 in the Solar Plexus to Gate 35 in the Throat. Emotion creates the crisis, the crisis carries you into experience, and the Throat expresses what you discovered: feel it, live it, speak it. Then the cycle starts again, because nothing lasts. The transitoriness is the mechanism.
Completing the Stream of Feelings
The Stream of Feelings runs through four Gates and two Channels: Gate 41 (Root) → Gate 30 (Solar Plexus) → Gate 36 (Solar Plexus) → Gate 35 (Throat). Channel 30-41 (Recognition) opens it with fantasy and desire. Channel 35-36 closes it with crisis, experience and expression. The stream moves from dream (41) through desire (30) through crisis (36) to expression (35).
If you have both Channel 30-41 and Channel 35-36, the whole stream from Root to Throat is defined and manifested: dream it, desire it, go through the crisis, live it, say it. Gate 35's "been there, done that, what's new?" is not boredom. It marks a finished cycle: the experience has been felt and expressed, and the restlessness returns. Your life is a series of completed experiences, each one widening what you know about feeling.
What if you only have one gate?
Gate 36 without Gate 35
You have the emotional crisis drive but no consistent Throat outlet to turn it into new experience. The crisis builds without a direct voice. You will be drawn to people with Gate 35 who give it direction.
Gate 35 without Gate 36
You have the voice of change but not the consistent emotional fuel behind it. The Throat says "what's new?", yet the restlessness lacks the intensity to carry you into truly transforming experiences. You will be drawn to people with Gate 36.
Attraction and transits
When someone with Gate 36 meets someone with Gate 35, the full Channel of Transitoriness turns on between them: one brings the crisis, the other the voice of change. A planetary transit through your missing Gate does the same for a while, and shows you what the complete Jack of All Trades feels like.

Generator, Projector or Reflector
A Generator or Projector has no motor connected to the Throat, and a Reflector has no defined Centers, so none of them has this Channel defined. With Gate 35 or Gate 36 alone, you feel the whole Channel through other people and transits. Follow your own Strategy: to respond, wait for the invitation, or wait a lunar cycle, about 28 days.
