Left Angle Cross of Wishes
The Left Angle Cross of Wishes is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 3, 50, 41 and 31. It joins ordering and values to pressure and influence. What you hope to start is shaped by the people around you: who shares your values, and who is willing to be moved.
Simple way to think about it: Wishes is a seed packet handed to you by a crowd. Everyone in it wants something a little different, and your part is to work out which seeds are worth planting with them and which belong in someone else's garden.

Match them to the rotations below to see which of the two you carry. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.
The Wishes cross on the BodyGraph
The four Gates sit in four different Centers: the Sacral and the Root low on the chart, the Spleen on the left and the Throat at the top. The conscious pair, Gates 3 and 50, is also a pair in the Right Angle Cross of Laws, and the Design pair, Gates 31 and 41, is a pair in the Right Angle Cross of The Unexpected.

The two rotations of the Wishes cross
Find the rotation whose first number matches your Personality Sun. The quarter it sits in gives the rotation its number, 1 or 2.
The Wishes 1 (3/50 | 41/31)
With Ordering as your conscious Sun, the cross opens in the Initiation quarter, a purpose fulfilled through Mind: you are here to give order to something that begins awkwardly, and Values, your conscious Earth, tells you what is worth the effort. On the Design side, Contraction and Influence work below awareness, so the pressure to begin and your pull on other people show before you have named them.
The Wishes 2 (50/3 | 31/41)
With Values as your conscious Sun, the cross sits in the Duality quarter, a purpose fulfilled through Bonding: what a group holds to be worth keeping comes first, and Ordering, the conscious Earth, gives it a shape others can use. Influence is now the Design Sun and Contraction the Design Earth, so the way you affect people is part of your makeup before it is a choice.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 3: Ordering
Gate 3, Ordering, sits in the Sacral, the Center of life force and work. Its hexagram is Difficulty at the Beginning: new things do not arrive tidy, and this Gate is the work of giving them order. It completes Channel 3-60 with Gate 60 in the Root, named Mutation and keynoted as energy that fluctuates and initiates. As a Sun it makes your purpose the bringing of form to what starts messily. As an Earth it steadies another theme with patience for the mess. Its lines run from Synthesis through Charisma to Surrender.
Gate 50: Values
Gate 50, Values, sits in the Spleen, the Center of instinct and fear, which speaks once and only in the present. Its hexagram is The Cauldron. It completes Channel 27-50 with Gate 27 in the Sacral, named Preservation and keynoted as custodianship, in the Tribal circuit. As a Sun it makes your purpose a question of what a group holds worth keeping. As an Earth it gives the other themes a sense of what deserves care. Its lines run from The Immigrant to Leadership, by way of Corruption and Consistency.
Gate 41: Contraction
Gate 41, Contraction, sits in the Root, the Center of pressure and drive. Its hexagram is Decrease. It completes Channel 30-41 with Gate 30 in the Solar Plexus, named Recognition and keynoted as focused energy. As a Sun it is the push to start something new with less than you would like. As an Earth it keeps a wish small enough to carry out. Here it sits on the Design side in both rotations, so others may see your push to begin before you do. Its first line is Reasonableness and its last is Contagion.
Gate 31: Influence
Influence, Gate 31, sits in the Throat, which gives it a voice. It completes Channel 7-31 with Gate 7 in the G Center, named The Alpha and keynoted as a design of leadership for good or bad. In this cross it sits on the Design side in both rotations, so the way you affect people runs below awareness: others may feel your influence before you know you have used it. Its lines run from Manifestation to Application, through Arrogance and Self-righteousness.
Two Gates about beginnings, in two motors
Two of the four Gates sit in motor Centers: Gate 3 in the Sacral and Gate 41 in the Root, and the Root is also a pressure Center. Both speak about starting. Gate 3 has the hexagram Difficulty at the Beginning, and Gate 41 is the push to begin with less than you would like. Together they make this cross restless about getting things going.
They stand on opposite sides of the chart. Ordering is a conscious Sun or Earth, so you can notice it. Contraction is on the Design side, working underneath. You may feel the order a new thing needs before you see how much pressure is behind your wanting to start it. Anyone can wish for something. This cross asks which wish is yours to carry out.
Three circuits, four different doors
The Channels these Gates complete belong to three circuits. Channel 3-60 is in the Individual circuit. Channels 7-31 and 30-41 are in the Collective circuit, and Channel 27-50 is in the Tribal circuit. Gate 3 is also marked in the canon as part of a format energy Channel, the only Gate of the four that is.
In practice the people this cross needs do not all come from one place. Someone who brings Gate 27 completes a Tribal Channel with your Gate 50. Someone who brings Gate 7 or Gate 30 completes a Collective one with your Gate 31 or Gate 41. Each meeting has a different flavor, and none of them is a repeat of the last. You can read all four in Channel 7-31 and its siblings.
One awareness Center among four Gates
Gate 50 is the only Gate here in an awareness Center. The Spleen is instinct and fear, in the present tense only, and it speaks once. So the cross gets its sense of what is worth keeping in one quiet signal, not a long debate.
The other three Gates sit in the Sacral, the Root and the Throat. They can work, press and speak, but they are not awareness Centers. That leaves a cross with plenty of energy to start and to say things, and a single Gate to tell it whether the start is right. Listening for that signal, and not talking over it, is much of the work.
Why the Wishes is a Left Angle cross
A Left Angle cross is lived through other people rather than around a personal goal. For Wishes that fits the name. A wish is rarely private here. What you hope for gets tested, trimmed and sometimes granted by the people around you, and what you learn about it comes back to you through them. The Left Angle goes with four Profiles: 5/1, 5/2, 6/2, 6/3. With one of these, these four Gates make the Left Angle cross; with a 4/1 Profile the same Gates make a Juxtaposition cross instead.
Your Sun line: how the line colors this cross
Your Personality Sun has a line as well as a Gate: the number after the dot. 3.5 means Gate 3, Line 5. Open your rotation below and find your line. The line title comes from the Rave I Ching; the sentence after it is how that line tends to color the Wishes cross.
Wishes 1: Personality Sun in Gate 3, Ordering
| 3.1 Synthesis | You bring order by joining pieces that were separate, and others see the shape before you can explain it. |
|---|---|
| 3.2 Immaturity | You start out unfinished and you know it, and the people near you help you grow into the idea. |
| 3.3 Survival | You get through a rough start by staying with it, and others learn from watching you keep going. |
| 3.4 Charisma | Something in how you carry a new beginning draws people in, and they help it along. |
| 3.5 Victimization | Others may hand you their disorder, and you decide how much of it is really yours. |
| 3.6 Surrender | You learn to let a thing be what it is instead of forcing your order on it. |
Wishes 2: Personality Sun in Gate 50, Values
| 50.1 The Immigrant | You come into a group as a newcomer and learn what it values by watching before you speak. |
|---|---|
| 50.2 Determination | You hold to what you decided was right, and people notice the steadiness before they hear the reasons. |
| 50.3 Adaptability | You fit yourself to the group around you, and the cross asks you to notice what you are bending. |
| 50.4 Corruption | You see where a group's values have slipped, and the task is to say so with care. |
| 50.5 Consistency | Your values stay the same from one situation to the next, and that is why others lean on you. |
| 50.6 Leadership | People look to you to lead on what the group holds worth keeping. |
Living the Wishes cross
At work
At work, Wishes people are often the ones who turn other people's wishes into a plan: the person who takes "we should really do this" and gives it an order, a first step and a size. You do best when the group has said what it wants before you begin. Without that, you may organize the wrong thing very well. When a project starts to feel like pressure, ask whether it is the one you were meant to carry.
In relationships
In relationships, the people closest to you shape which wishes you act on. A partner or friend who shares your values gives you something solid to steady against. Someone who does not may leave you unsure whether your wants are your own. Notice whose wish you are tending. Helping a person start something they care about can be a real gift here, as long as it stays theirs and you have not quietly taken it on.
In decisions
Wishes does not tell you what to choose. It gives your life a theme: beginnings, values and your pull on other people. A wish can feel urgent and still not be yours. Take your time with a big start, let the pressure show what it is, and decide the way your own Strategy and Authority say.
Answer through your Type and your inner Authority, and let the cross show itself in the wishes you choose to act on. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Wishes cross is misread
"My wishes will come true because I have this cross"
"Left Angle means other people decide what I want"
"Every Gate in this cross is a Channel I have"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 3: What began messily for you lately, and what order does it need?
- Gate 50: What does your group, family or team really value, and does what you are doing line up with it?
- Gate 41: What are you feeling pressure to start right now, and could it start smaller?
- Gate 31: Where did your influence land on someone this week, and did you mean it to?

FAQ: Left Angle Cross of Wishes
What is the Left Angle Cross of Wishes?
It is a Left Angle Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 3, 50, 41 and 31. Its theme is what people hope to start and what they value, worked out through other people rather than alone.
Which Wishes rotation do I have?
Read the four numbers after the cross name on your chart. 3/50 | 41/31 is Wishes 1, with Ordering as your Personality Sun. 50/3 | 31/41 is Wishes 2, with Values as your Personality Sun.
How do Contraction and Influence work as the Design pair of Wishes?
Gate 41, Contraction, is a Root Gate with the hexagram Decrease, and Gate 31, Influence, is a Throat Gate whose hexagram is also Influence. In Wishes 1 Contraction is the Design Sun and Influence the Design Earth, and in rotation 2 they swap. One holds pressure at the Root and the other holds a voice.
Does the Cross of Wishes fix my Type or Authority?
No. None of the four Gates is the partner of another, so the cross defines no Channel by itself. Your Type and Authority come from the rest of your chart.
How do Difficulty at the Beginning and The Cauldron start Wishes?
Gate 3, Ordering, carries Difficulty at the Beginning and sits in the Sacral. Gate 50, Values, carries The Cauldron and sits in the Spleen. They are opposites and the conscious pair, so a wish here starts as a hard beginning and is held in a vessel of values.
Which Gate in Wishes can speak?
Gate 31, Influence, is the only one in the Throat. Gates 3, 41 and 50 sit in the Sacral, the Root and the Spleen, so they feed the cross with energy, pressure and instinct rather than words.
