Juxtaposition Cross of Values
The Juxtaposition Cross of Values is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 50, 3, 31 and 41, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path where instinct about what matters leads, order follows, and a voice and a fresh start sit underneath.
Simple way to think about it: Values is the keel of a boat. Nobody looks at it, and it stays under the water the whole trip, but it is what lets the boat hold a course in wind that would otherwise push it anywhere. Take it away and the sails just spin.

Look for the line that reads Juxtaposition Cross of Values. The four numbers in brackets are the Gates of your Personality Sun and Earth, then your Design Sun and Earth, for example (50/3 | 31/41). They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.
The Values cross on the BodyGraph
Four Centers hold the four Gates, one each. Gate 50 is in the Spleen, Gate 3 in the Sacral, Gate 31 in the Throat and Gate 41 in the Root. The conscious pair, 3 and 50, is the pair the Right Angle Cross of Laws carries. The Design pair, 31 and 41, comes from the Right Angle Cross of The Unexpected.

How the Values cross is placed
The Values (50/3 | 31/41)
Values is your conscious Sun and Ordering your conscious Earth, so a sense of what matters and a way of arranging things around it are what you know best. Influence and Contraction run on the Design side, which is why others may feel a pull from you, and a readiness to begin, that you do not often see.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 50: Values
Gate 50, Values, is the conscious Sun and the cross's only Spleen Gate. Its hexagram is The Cauldron. It completes Channel 27-50, Preservation, with Gate 27 in the Sacral, a Tribal circuit Channel. Its lines run from The Immigrant and Determination to Consistency and Leadership. The fourth, Corruption, is fixed in this cross. The title names what happens when values go bad, and it works as a warning built into the Sun: a standard is only worth having if it is kept honest.
Gate 3: Ordering
Gate 3, Ordering, is the conscious Earth and sits in the Sacral. Its hexagram is Difficulty at the Beginning. It completes Channel 3-60, Mutation, with Gate 60 in the Root, an Individual circuit Channel. Its lines move from Synthesis and Immaturity to Victimization and Surrender. The fourth, Charisma, is the one this cross always carries. Under the Sun's sense of what matters is a presence that draws people to the order you make, and that presence is the part of you others are most likely to name.
Gate 31: Influence
Gate 31, Influence, is the Design Sun, lived without thinking, and the cross's only Throat Gate. Its hexagram is also Influence. It completes Channel 7-31, The Alpha, with Gate 7 in the G Center, a Collective circuit Channel. Its lines run from Manifestation to Application. Manifestation, the first, is fixed here: the voice begins with making something real. Others may find you persuasive without knowing why, because the influence works below the level of effort.
Gate 41: Contraction
Gate 41, Contraction, is the Design Earth and sits in the Root. Its hexagram is Decrease. It completes Channel 30-41, Recognition, with Gate 30 in the Solar Plexus. Its lines move from Reasonableness and Caution to Authorization and Contagion. The first line, Reasonableness, is fixed in this cross, so the base of the design is a steadiness about where to begin. The Root is a pressure Center, and this Gate converts that pressure into a starting point that other people can follow.
Instinct leads with the Spleen Gate
The Spleen is an awareness Center of instinct and survival, and it speaks in the present tense only. Gate 50 gives it the Sun in this cross, so the thing you know most clearly about yourself is a gut sense of what is worth holding to.
That is a quiet kind of knowing, not an argument. You may find you can tell what is right for a person, a group or a household before you can say why. Because the Spleen speaks once, that first signal deserves the weight the cross gives it.
A voice and a start on the Design side
Gate 31, the Design Sun, is the Throat, and Gate 41, the Design Earth, is the Root. Both complete Collective circuit Channels, Channel 7-31 and Channel 30-41, and neither is defined by the cross.
Underneath your values, then, is a voice that makes things real and a pressure that knows where to begin. Both are lived without effort. You may notice that people respond to how you start and speak long before they know what you believe, and that is the Design side working.
Two Centers the cross never touches
The four Gates sit in the Spleen, Sacral, Throat and Root. Their Channel partners reach two other Centers: Gate 7 in the G Center and Gate 30 in the Solar Plexus. So the cross is built around Centers it only points toward.
The G holds identity and direction, and the Solar Plexus holds emotion. Both are places where a chart with this cross may have openness or its own definition, and neither is fixed by the cross. If you want to know whether your values and your voice are joined to who you feel you are, the answer is in the whole chart.
Why the Values is a Juxtaposition cross
Values is the fixed position of a conscience. It does not rotate through other roles, and it does not need a new audience to stay itself. The four lines stay the same for life, and the practice is to hold your standard without making it a weapon. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.
The four lines of the Values cross
A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Values cross carries these four.
| Personality Sun: Gate 50.4 Corruption | Your sense of what matters carries a built-in warning that a value is worth keeping only while it stays honest. |
|---|---|
| Personality Earth: Gate 3.4 Charisma | Your way of arranging things has charisma, so people are drawn to the order you make. |
| Design Sun: Gate 31.1 Manifestation | Below awareness your voice starts with manifestation, making something real before explaining it. |
| Design Earth: Gate 41.1 Reasonableness | At your base is reasonableness, a steady sense of where it is sensible to begin. |
Living the Values cross
At work
People with Values tend to be trusted to set standards: quality, ethics, taste, what goes in and what stays out. The charisma helps, and so does a voice that starts by making something. Be careful that a high standard does not turn into policing other people. Keep it as a standard you apply to yourself first.
In relationships
In close relationships the cross can feel like a quiet, constant judgment about what is right for the two of you. The Spleen speaks once, and it may arrive well before the words do. Say it plainly and early, then give the other person room to answer rather than defend a verdict.
In decisions
Your first instinct is strong and worth noting, but a Spleen Sun is not an Authority on its own. The cross fixes neither Type nor Authority, because none of its Gates pair into a Channel. Decide using the Type and Authority your whole chart shows.
Let the cross describe what you hold to, and your Type and Authority decide what you do about it. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Values cross is misread
"Values means I am supposed to be morally right"
"Charisma means I am meant to lead"
"It is the Left Angle Cross of Wishes under another name"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 50: Which of your standards would you keep even if nobody ever noticed?
- Gate 3: What order do you make around yourself, and who is drawn to it?
- Gate 31: When did you start making something before you could explain it?
- Gate 41: Where do you instinctively know it is sensible to begin?

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Values
What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Values?
It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 50, 3, 31 and 41, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path where instinct about what matters leads, with order, voice and a starting point beneath it.
What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Values?
They are 50.4 Corruption as the Personality Sun, 3.4 Charisma as the Personality Earth, 31.1 Manifestation as the Design Sun, and 41.1 Reasonableness as the Design Earth. Because this cross only comes with the 4/1 Profile, all four lines appear in every chart that carries it.
What does Gate 50 do as the conscious Sun?
Gate 50, Values, sits in the Spleen and completes Channel 27-50 with Gate 27 in the Sacral. As the Sun it makes instinct about what matters the most visible part of the design, with Corruption, the fourth line, as its fixed warning.
What does the Design Earth, Gate 41.1 Reasonableness, set going beneath Values?
Gate 41, Contraction, sits in the Root, the Center of pressure and the push to begin. Its fixed first line, Reasonableness, means the starting point under this cross comes with sensible reasons. It can complete Channel 30-41, Recognition, with Gate 30 in the Solar Plexus.
Where does Gate 31 lead beyond the Throat?
Gate 31 forms Channel 7-31, The Alpha, with Gate 7 in the G Center, a Collective circuit Channel. The cross does not include Gate 7, so that Channel is yours only if your own chart supplies it.
How does the Sacral figure in Values?
Gate 3, Ordering, sits there as the conscious Earth, in a format energy Channel with Gate 60. The Sacral is the largest motor, but the cross alone does not define it, so it does not fix a Type.
