Left Angle Cross of The Clarion
The Left Angle Cross of The Clarion is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 51, 57, 61 and 62. It is about a clear call: a jolt of courage, a quiet instinct for what is true and a mind full of questions, spoken through the Throat and shaped by those who hear it.
Simple way to think about it: A clarion is a loud, clear call meant to carry across a distance. Nobody sounds one for themselves. It is for the people who need to wake up, gather or move, and its worth is measured by whether they hear it, not by how well it was blown.

The Clarion cross on the BodyGraph
The four Gates sit in four Centers: the Head at the top, the Throat, the Spleen and the Heart. Only the Heart is a motor, so this cross has more to say than to push. The conscious pair, 51 and 57, is also in the Right Angle Cross of Penetration, and the Design pair, 61 and 62, is in the Right Angle Cross of Maya.

The two rotations of the Clarion cross
Find the rotation whose first number matches your Personality Sun. The quarter it sits in gives the rotation its number, 1 or 2.
The Clarion 1 (51/57 | 61/62)
With Shock as your conscious Sun, the jolt comes first: you are here to be the one who breaks a silence or a habit, and Intuitive Clarity, the conscious Earth, gives the shock an instinct to aim by. Mystery and Details work on the Design side, so the questions you carry and the small points you rely on form below awareness.
The Clarion 2 (57/51 | 62/61)
With Intuitive Clarity as your conscious Sun, the theme is knowing early and quietly what is true, and Shock, the Earth, supplies the courage to say it when it startles. On the Design side Details is the Sun and Mystery the Earth, so care for the small points leads while the big questions sit underneath.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 51: Shock
Gate 51, Shock, sits in the Heart, the smallest motor and the Center of willpower and worth. Its hexagram is The Arousing. It completes Channel 25-51 with Gate 25 in the G Center, a design of needing to be first, and it belongs to the Individual circuit. Its lines run from Reference and Withdrawal to Symmetry and Separation. As a Sun it makes your purpose the jolt that wakes something up. As an Earth it grounds your other themes in a courage you did not plan on having.
Gate 57: Intuitive Clarity
Gate 57, Intuitive Clarity, sits in the Spleen, the Center of instinct that speaks once and in the present. Its hexagram is The Gentle. It is the most connected Gate in this cross, able to join Gate 10 in the G Center, Gate 20 in the Throat or Gate 34 in the Sacral. Confusion and Cleansing open its lines, and The Director and Utilization close them. As a Sun it makes your purpose the quiet knowing that arrives before you can explain it. As an Earth it steadies the jolt with a sense of what is true.
Gate 61: Mystery
Gate 61, Mystery, sits in the Head, the Center of the pressure to think. Its hexagram is Inner Truth. It completes Channel 24-61 with Gate 24 in the Ajna, a design of a thinker. Its lines start at Occult knowledge and Natural brilliance and move through Research and Influence to Appeal. In this cross it sits on the Design side in both rotations, so the questions you carry run below awareness. Others may hear the question in your voice before you can name it.
Gate 62: Details
Gate 62, Details, is the one Gate here in the Throat, so it speaks. Its hexagram is Preponderance of the Small. It completes Channel 17-62 with Gate 17 in the Ajna, a design of an organizational being, and it is the only Gate of the four on the Collective circuit. Routine and Restraint begin its lines, Discovery and Asceticism follow, and Metamorphosis and Self-discipline end them. On the Design side it gives your voice a habit of precision you may not notice, the knack of making a call specific enough to act on.
A pressure Center feeding a voice
Gate 61 sits in the Head, a pressure Center. Its pressure is to think, to wonder, to ask questions with no way to answer them. Gate 62 sits in the Throat. Between them in the body is the Ajna, and the Ajna is exactly where their partner Gates, 24 and 17, live. Each completes a Channel into it.
So the Design pair hands you both ends of a thought: the question at the top and the exit at the Throat. The middle, where a question becomes a conclusion, has to come from the rest of your chart or from other people. That is the Left Angle at work. A call goes out, and what it finally means is finished in the ears of whoever answers.
One motor and one awareness Center
Only one of the four Centers is a motor, and it is the Heart, home of Gate 51. The one awareness Center is the Spleen, home of Gate 57. The Heart is willpower and worth. The Spleen is instinct in the present tense, and it speaks once.
Put together, that describes a call that comes in bursts. The Spleen gives you one clear knowing, the Heart gives you the nerve to say it, and neither is built for endless repetition. This cross has no Sacral and no Root, so it is not a sustained-drive cross. It is a precise one, and it works best when you say the true thing once and clearly.
Gate 57 and its three doors
Gate 57 can complete three Channels: 10-57 toward the G Center, 20-57 toward the Throat, and 34-57 toward the Sacral. This cross holds the Gate and none of those Channels, which makes it a door left open. A Channel completes when your chart, or another person, brings Gate 10, 20 or 34.
Two of those partner Gates, 20 and 34, are the pair at the center of the Left Angle Cross of Duality. When someone with that pair stands next to you, your intuition suddenly has a way to reach the Throat or the Sacral. People like that can feel unusually easy to be understood by, and that is the cross doing what it was built to do.
Why the Clarion is a Left Angle cross
A Left Angle cross is transpersonal: the purpose is worked out through other people, and your life tends to be shaped by who you meet. Three of these four Gates are on the Individual circuit, yet the cross asks for an audience. A call that nobody hears is only a sound, and your clarity comes into its own when someone answers it. The Left Angle goes with four Profiles: 5/1, 5/2, 6/2, 6/3. With one of these, these four Gates make the Left Angle cross; with a 4/1 Profile the same Gates make a Juxtaposition cross instead.
Your Sun line: how the line colors this cross
Your Personality Sun has a line as well as a Gate: the number after the dot. 51.5 means Gate 51, Line 5. Open your rotation below and find your line. The line title comes from the Rave I Ching; the sentence after it is how that line tends to color the Clarion cross.
Clarion 1: Personality Sun in Gate 51, Shock
| 51.1 Reference | You look for a reference point before you act, and your jolt lands better when it rests on something proven. |
|---|---|
| 51.2 Withdrawal | You pull back after a shock to collect yourself, and others learn to wait for what you say next. |
| 51.3 Adaptation | You adapt to what the shock turns up, and your call changes shape depending on who hears it. |
| 51.4 Limitation | You know your limits, and a call that stays within them is the one people actually answer. |
| 51.5 Symmetry | You keep the jolt and its effect in balance, so what you stir up stays in proportion. |
| 51.6 Separation | You step apart from the commotion you cause, and from there you see how people really took it. |
Clarion 2: Personality Sun in Gate 57, Intuitive Clarity
| 57.1 Confusion | Your knowing starts out muddy, and it clears when you stop forcing it to explain itself. |
|---|---|
| 57.2 Cleansing | You clear away what is not true before you speak, and others feel the clean air in your call. |
| 57.3 Acuteness | You pick up on small signals quickly, so you often sense the mood before anyone has named it. |
| 57.4 The Director | You steer others by what you sense, and the cross asks you to let them choose their own direction. |
| 57.5 Progression | Your clarity builds step by step, and people trust it more as it keeps proving right over time. |
| 57.6 Utilization | You put what you sense to use instead of hoarding it, and your intuition ends up helping others. |
Living the Clarion cross
At work
Clarion people are often the ones who notice what is off and say so, in a meeting, a plan or a process, with the small detail that proves it. Work goes best where that is wanted: editing, quality, advising, anything where a clear call at the right moment matters. Because Gate 62 loves detail, check that your call is specific enough for people to act on, not only true.
In relationships
In relationships the cross works through whoever is on the receiving end. A shock lands differently on different people, so learn how your partner or friend hears you. Your instinct may speak once and quietly, so say it then, kindly, instead of waiting until it has become a complaint. And let the other person answer. The call is half of a conversation.
In decisions
This cross fixes neither your Type nor your Authority, so your decisions follow the rest of your chart. What it adds is a habit to watch: the Spleen speaks once, in the moment, and the Head keeps asking afterward. Notice which of those two voices you are hearing before you decide.
Answer with your Type and your inner Authority, and treat the clear call as something you give once your own answer is in. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Clarion cross is misread
"A clarion means I should be loud"
"Carrying the Head means I should have the answers"
"This cross gives me the Brainwave Channel"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 51: When did a jolt of courage last move you to act, and what did it make possible?
- Gate 57: What did your gut tell you quietly today, and did you let it count?
- Gate 61: Which question keeps coming back with no answer yet, and who might help you hold it?
- Gate 62: Which small detail are you tempted to skip, and what would change if you included it?

FAQ: Left Angle Cross of The Clarion
What is the Left Angle Cross of The Clarion?
It is a Left Angle Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 51, 57, 61 and 62. Its theme is a clear call, courage, instinct and questions brought out through the Throat, worked out through other people.
Which Clarion rotation do I have?
Read the four numbers after the cross name on your chart. 51/57 | 61/62 is The Clarion 1, with Shock as your Personality Sun. 57/51 | 62/61 is The Clarion 2, with Intuitive Clarity as your Personality Sun.
How do Inner Truth and The Gentle meet in The Clarion?
Gate 61, Mystery, is a Head Gate with the hexagram Inner Truth. Gate 57, Intuitive Clarity, is a Spleen Gate with The Gentle. The Head is a pressure Center and the Spleen an awareness Center, so a pressure to know meets an awareness that acts in the moment. Both belong to the Individual circuit.
Is The Clarion mainly a Throat cross?
Not really. Only Gate 62 sits in the Throat. The other three Gates sit in the Head, the Spleen and the Heart, and they feed the voice with questions, instinct and nerve.
What do the Head and the Spleen do in a clear call?
The Head supplies the pressure to question, and the Spleen supplies one present-tense knowing. The cross gives you both, and the call is strongest when you let the knowing, rather than the questioning, speak.
What does the Heart add to The Clarion?
Gate 51, Shock, is the only Heart Gate in The Clarion, and the Heart is its only motor Center. Its hexagram is The Arousing, and it reaches Gate 25 in the G Center through Channel 25-51. In rotation 1 it is your Personality Sun, so that cross opens on an arousing Gate.
