Juxtaposition Cross of Intuition
The Juxtaposition Cross of Intuition is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 57, 51, 62 and 61, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about knowing before you can explain: a clear instinct, a shock that tests it, and details and a mystery to work through.
Simple way to think about it: Intuition is the compass needle. It does not draw the map or walk the trail, but it settles on a direction before anyone can say why, and the trip goes better when it is trusted.

The four numbers in brackets are the Gates of your Personality Sun and Earth, then your Design Sun and Earth, for example (57/51 | 62/61). They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.
The Intuition cross on the BodyGraph
Four Centers hold the four Gates: the Spleen, the Heart, the Throat and the Head. No two of the four are partners, so the cross defines no Channel by itself. Gates 57 and 51, the conscious pair, are the pair the Right Angle Cross of Penetration carries. Gates 62 and 61, the Design pair, come from the Right Angle Cross of Maya.

How the Intuition cross is placed
The Intuition (57/51 | 62/61)
Intuitive Clarity is your conscious Sun and Shock your conscious Earth, so the Spleen's quiet knowing and the Heart's jolt sit on the side you know. Details and Mystery run on the Design side: a Throat that attends to the small things and a Head that holds the large questions, which others may see before you do.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 57: Intuitive Clarity
Gate 57, Intuitive Clarity, is the conscious Sun and sits in the Spleen, the Center of instinct and fear. Its hexagram is The Gentle, and it belongs to the Individual circuit. It is the one Gate of the four that can complete three different Channels: 10-57 with Gate 10 in the G Center, 20-57 with Gate 20 in the Throat, and 34-57 with Gate 34 in the Sacral. Its fourth line, The Director, is fixed in every chart with this cross: the clarity comes with a sense of which way to go.
Gate 51: Shock
Gate 51, Shock, is the conscious Earth and sits in the Heart, the Center of willpower and worth. Its hexagram is The Arousing. It completes Channel 25-51, Initiation, with Gate 25 in the G Center, a Design of Needing to Be First. It grounds the cross in a sudden jolt: something happens, and the instinct has to answer it. Its fourth line, Limitation, is fixed here, so the jolt comes with a sense of where its edges are.
Gate 62: Details
Gate 62, Details, is the Design Sun and the cross's only Throat Gate, so it is the voice. Its hexagram is Preponderance of the Small, and it belongs to the Collective circuit. It completes Channel 17-62, Acceptance, with Gate 17 in the Ajna, a Design of an Organizational Being. Its first line, Routine, is fixed in this cross: below awareness the voice gets its details right through repetition, not inspiration.
Gate 61: Mystery
Gate 61, Mystery, is the Design Earth and sits in the Head, the pressure Center. Its hexagram is Inner Truth. It completes Channel 24-61, Awareness, with Gate 24 in the Ajna, a Design of a Thinker. Its first line, Occult knowledge, is fixed here. The ground of the cross is a pressure to know what cannot yet be known, and the line suggests that the pressure is met by moving toward hidden things, not by waiting for them to be explained.
One Gate, three possible Channels
Gate 57 completes Channels 10-57, 20-57 and 34-57, each with a partner in a different Center: the G Center, the Throat and the Sacral. Which of these your chart has depends on which partner Gates you carry, and you may have none, one or more than one.
That makes the conscious Sun of Intuition the most flexible Gate in the cross. The same instinct can show up as a Design of Survival (10-57), of Penetrating Awareness (20-57) or of an Archetype (34-57).
The Head and the Throat on the Design side
The Design pair sits in the Head, a pressure Center, and the Throat. Both Channels they complete, 24-61 and 17-62, run into the Ajna, to Gates 24 and 17.
So the Ajna is where the Design pair points. The Head's pressure to know a mystery and the Throat's attention to details both lead toward the mind's Center, where an opinion or a concept can form. The cross puts no Gate in the Ajna itself, so those two connections are offers, waiting on Gates 24 and 17.
An awareness Center and a motor, side by side
On the conscious side the Spleen and the Heart sit together: the awareness Center of instinct, which works in the present and speaks once, and the smallest motor, of willpower and worth. They are the only awareness Center and the only motor among the four Gates.
Gate 57 senses; Gate 51 reacts and puts will behind the reaction. Together they describe a first answer that is immediate and bodily, followed by a decision about how much of the will to commit. Both Gates belong to the Individual circuit.
Why the Intuition is a Juxtaposition cross
Intuition does not move between versions of itself. The sense of direction in line 4 of Gate 57, the limits in line 4 of Gate 51, and the routine and the mystery below awareness are all in place for life. For a cross about knowing without proof, the fixity helps: the intuition does not have to be rebuilt, only trusted and checked. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.
The four lines of the Intuition cross
A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Intuition cross carries these four.
| Personality Sun: Gate 57.4 The Director | Your clarity points somewhere, so you often know which way to go before you can say why. |
|---|---|
| Personality Earth: Gate 51.4 Limitation | The jolts in your life come with edges, and you learn where a shock stops and where you start. |
| Design Sun: Gate 62.1 Routine | Below awareness your voice rests on routine, and getting small things right becomes how you are trusted. |
| Design Earth: Gate 61.1 Occult knowledge | Your ground is a pull toward hidden things, and others may see your curiosity before you name it. |
Living the Intuition cross
At work
Intuition suits work where a quick, clear read matters and the details still have to be right: research, troubleshooting, editing, advising, anything that rewards noticing what others have not yet put into words. Pair the instinct with a routine, since Gate 62 keeps its details through repetition, and give yourself time to put the read into words before you defend it.
In relationships
People close to you may feel that you know things about them before they have said anything. That can be a gift or an intrusion. Say what you sense as an observation, not a verdict, and let them tell you whether it is right. A shock, in Gate 51's sense, can arrive in a relationship too; notice where its limits fall.
In decisions
The Spleen speaks once, in the moment, and it is easy to talk yourself out of it afterward. But a clear instinct is not a decision process. Treat it as information and bring it to your Type and your inner Authority.
Intuition gives you the first read; your Type and Authority decide what to do with it. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Intuition cross is misread
"Intuition means I should trust every gut feeling"
"I need Gate 57's Channels to have this cross"
"It is the same as the Left Angle Cross of The Clarion"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 57: When did you last know something before you could say how?
- Gate 51: What recent shock showed you where one of your limits is?
- Gate 62: Which small detail do you always get right, and who has noticed?
- Gate 61: What hidden thing are you drawn toward, and what pulls you?

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Intuition
What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Intuition?
It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 57, 51, 62 and 61, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about knowing before you can explain: a clear instinct, a shock that tests it, and details and a mystery to work through.
What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Intuition?
They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 57.4 The Director as the Personality Sun, 51.4 Limitation as the Personality Earth, 62.1 Routine as the Design Sun, and 61.1 Occult knowledge as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.
How many roads does Gate 57 open in Intuition?
Three. It can complete Channel 10-57 with Gate 10, Channel 20-57 with Gate 20 and Channel 34-57 with Gate 34. Your chart decides which of these, if any, are defined.
Why does Intuition point at the Ajna without a Gate there?
The Design pair completes Channels 24-61 and 17-62, and both end in the Ajna at Gates 24 and 17. The cross itself has no Ajna Gate, so those Channels need partners from the rest of your chart.
What is the Heart doing in a cross called Intuition?
Gate 51, Shock, sits in the Heart, the Center of willpower and worth, and is the conscious Earth. It gives the instinct something to answer and a will to answer with, through Channel 25-51 when Gate 25 is present.
Why is the pressure Center on the Design side?
Gate 61, Mystery, is in the Head and is the Design Earth. A pressure to know sits below awareness in this cross, so the curiosity may be seen by others, or felt as a background pull, before you can name it.
