Left Angle Cross of Incarnation
The Left Angle Cross of Incarnation is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 24, 44, 13 and 7. It is about a mind and an instinct tuned to people: thinking things through, sensing who is arriving, and listening for your place in a group, worked out through the relationships you build.
Simple way to think about it: Think of the friend who sits in the middle of the table and notices who has not spoken yet. They are not running the evening. They are reading it, and then they say the one thing that lets everyone find their place in it.

The two rotations of the Incarnation cross
Find the rotation whose first number matches your Personality Sun. The quarter it sits in gives the rotation its number, 1 or 2.
The Incarnation 1 (24/44 | 13/7)
With Rationalization as your conscious Sun, the mind leads: you go over what you meet until it makes sense, and Alertness, the conscious Earth, ties that thinking to what your instinct says right now. This Sun sits in the Initiation quarter, purpose through mind. The Listener and The Role of the Self in Interaction work on the Design side, shaping how you fit in before you notice.
The Incarnation 2 (44/24 | 7/13)
Here Alertness is the conscious theme: you sense who and what is arriving, and Rationalization, the conscious Earth, asks you to make sense of it afterward. This Sun sits in the Duality quarter, purpose through bonding. The Role of the Self in Interaction and The Listener run on the Design side, so others may feel your place in the group before you have named it.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 24: Rationalization
Gate 24, Rationalization, sits in the Ajna, the Center of concepts, opinions and certainty, and its hexagram is The Return. It completes Channel 24-61 with Gate 61 in the Head, keynoted as a design of a thinker. Its lines run from The sin of omission and Recognition through The Addict and The Hermit to Confession and The Gift Horse. In this cross it is on the conscious side in both rotations. The mind that circles back is one you can watch at work, and learn to trust.
Gate 44: Alertness
Gate 44, Alertness, sits in the Spleen, the Center of instinct that speaks once and in the present, and its hexagram is Coming to Meet. It is a Tribal Gate. Its Channel partner is Gate 26 in the Heart, together forming Channel 26-44, keynoted as a transmitter. Its lines run from Conditions and Management through Interference and Honesty to Manipulation and Aloofness. It is on the conscious side in both rotations, so you can notice the instinct as it happens, usually about who or what has just arrived.
Gate 13: The Listener
Gate 13, The Listener, sits in the G Center, the Center of identity, direction and love, and its hexagram is The Fellowship of Man. It completes Channel 13-33 with Gate 33 in the Throat, named The Prodigal and keynoted as a witness. Its lines run from Empathy and Bigotry through Pessimism and Fatigue to The Saviour and The Optimist. In this cross it sits on the Design side in both rotations, so the listening runs below awareness. People may feel heard around you before you know you listened.
Gate 7: The Role of the Self in Interaction
Gate 7, The Role of the Self in Interaction, also sits in the G Center, and its hexagram is The Army. It completes Channel 7-31 with Gate 31 in the Throat, named The Alpha and keynoted as leadership for good or bad. Its lines run from Authoritarian and The Democrat through The Anarchist and The Abdicator to The General and The Administrator. It is on the Design side in both rotations, a quiet sense of what part you play when people gather, which others often see before you do.
Identity and direction, both pointing at the Throat
Two of the four Gates, 13 and 7, are in the G Center. Both complete Channels that run from the G Center to the Throat: Channel 13-33, The Prodigal, and Channel 7-31, The Alpha. In both, the partner Gates, 33 and 31, are Throat Gates the cross does not hold.
So the part of the cross that deals with who you are and where you are going keeps reaching for a voice it does not own. It listens and takes a role, and then the words have to come from elsewhere in your chart or from the person across from you. That is the Left Angle at its plainest: the identity you carry is real, and it only gets spoken when someone else meets it. The Left Angle Cross of The Alpha holds Gate 31 and shares your Gates 24 and 44.
A cross with senses and a direction, but no motor
None of the four Gates is in a motor Center. The Ajna and the Spleen are awareness Centers, one mental and one instinctive, and the G Center is the center of identity and direction. That is a lot of sensing and steering and no built-in fuel.
The one motor that comes close is the Heart, through Channel 26-44. Gate 44 reaches for it, and if Gate 26 is in your chart or in a partner's, the instinct has willpower behind it. Without that, this cross is a good observer and a good guide, and its energy comes from the rest of your design. That is not a lack, just a reason to check how your Type works before you decide what the cross is asking of you.
One cross that touches every circuit
The Gates lead to Channels in all three circuits. Gates 7 and 13 lead to Collective Channels, one on the Understanding side and one on the Sensing side. Gate 24 leads to Channel 24-61 in the Individual circuit, on the Knowing side. Gate 44 leads to Channel 26-44 in the Tribal circuit, on the Ego side.
The cross therefore holds a bit of each way of connecting: a shared view, a private thought and a bond with a group. You may find it easy to move between different kinds of people, and hard to say which of them is most like you. The answer is not to pick one. It is to notice which circuit is speaking when you feel pulled in a direction.
Why the Incarnation is a Left Angle cross
A Left Angle cross is transpersonal: the purpose is worked out through other people, and your life tends to be shaped by who you meet. For Incarnation that is close to the definition. You are here to take part in a story that other people are in, and what you learn comes from how they respond. The Left Angle goes with four Profiles: 5/1, 5/2, 6/2, 6/3. With one of these, these four Gates make the Left Angle cross; with a 4/1 Profile the same Gates make a Juxtaposition cross instead.
Your Sun line: how the line colors this cross
Your Personality Sun has a line as well as a Gate: the number after the dot. 24.5 means Gate 24, Line 5. Open your rotation below and find your line. The line title comes from the Rave I Ching; the sentence after it is how that line tends to color the Incarnation cross.
Incarnation 1: Personality Sun in Gate 24, Rationalization
| 24.1 The sin of omission | You catch what was left unsaid or undone, and your mind returns to it until it is dealt with. |
|---|---|
| 24.2 Recognition | Something clicks when you recognize a pattern, and that recognition is where your thinking begins. |
| 24.3 The Addict | A thought can become a habit you cannot put down, so you learn which ones to keep. |
| 24.4 The Hermit | You step back to think alone, and the cross asks you to come back with what you found. |
| 24.5 Confession | You tell others what you have been turning over, and honesty about it frees the thought. |
| 24.6 The Gift Horse | You learn to accept a good idea as a gift, and not to examine it until it breaks. |
Incarnation 2: Personality Sun in Gate 44, Alertness
| 44.1 Conditions | Your instinct notices the conditions people bring, and it tells you at once whether they suit you. |
|---|---|
| 44.2 Management | You handle what you sense in others with care, and you steer toward what supports the group. |
| 44.3 Interference | Your instinct can step into a situation uninvited, so you learn to wait before acting on it. |
| 44.4 Honesty | You tell others what you sense plainly, and honesty is how your instinct earns trust. |
| 44.5 Manipulation | Instinct about people can turn into steering them, and the cross asks you to notice when it does. |
| 44.6 Aloofness | You can stand apart from the crowd and see it clearly, as long as you come back to it. |
Living the Incarnation cross
At work
Incarnation people are often the ones who read a team well: who is overloaded, who is about to leave, who should talk to whom. Work goes best when that reading is welcome and you are not expected to push the plan through. Offer what you see once, plainly, and let the group decide what to do with it.
In relationships
In relationships this cross shows up as attention. You notice the moment someone arrives, and you listen for what they want to be. The risk is in managing people too closely once you see them. Check whether you are being asked for your read before you give it, and let the other person be the one who decides what it means.
In decisions
Incarnation gives your life a theme, not a rule for each choice. Your instinct speaks once and in the moment, and your mind wants to go over it again. Neither is the whole of your Authority. Use your Authority to decide, and use the cross to understand why the choice mattered to you.
Answer with your Type and your inner Authority, and let your place among people follow from choices that were truly yours. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Incarnation cross is misread
"Incarnation means I am meant to be a leader"
"My instinct and my thoughts always agree"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 24: What thought have you been returning to, and what has it not yet been allowed to say?
- Gate 44: Who walked into your life recently, and what did your first instinct say?
- Gate 13: Who needs to be listened to right now, and are you the right person to do it?
- Gate 7: What part do you usually take when a group gathers, and did you choose it?

FAQ: Left Angle Cross of Incarnation
What is the Left Angle Cross of Incarnation?
It is a Left Angle Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 24, 44, 13 and 7. Its theme is a thinking mind and a listening instinct, tuned to other people and worked out through relationships.
Which Incarnation rotation do I have?
Read the four numbers after the cross name on your chart. 24/44 | 13/7 is Incarnation 1, with Rationalization as your Personality Sun. 44/24 | 7/13 is Incarnation 2, with Alertness as your Personality Sun.
Is this the same as having an Incarnation Cross?
No. Everyone has an Incarnation Cross, and this one happens to be called Incarnation. The Incarnation Cross guide explains what the cross is and how it is chosen.
Where does the energy come from if the cross has no motor?
From the rest of your chart. None of the four Gates is in a motor Center. Gate 44 does reach toward the Heart through Channel 26-44, so a partner with Gate 26 can add willpower to the instinct.
Which Channels can another person complete with my Gates?
Four: 7-31 and 13-33 into the Throat, 24-61 into the Head, and 26-44 into the Heart. Each needs the partner Gate, 31, 33, 61 or 26, in the other person's chart.
How do The Return and Coming to Meet pair in Incarnation?
Gate 24, Rationalization, carries the hexagram The Return and sits in the Ajna. Gate 44, Alertness, carries Coming to Meet and sits in the Spleen. They are opposites and the conscious pair. A mind that circles back meets an awareness that goes out to greet.
