Juxtaposition Cross of Formulization
The Juxtaposition Cross of Formulization is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 4, 8, 14 and 49, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about making things clear and useful: an answer, a contribution, the power to carry it out and the principle behind it.
Simple way to think about it: Formulization is the recipe card. The cooking happens elsewhere, but the card is what lets someone else repeat it, and a good one gets copied long after its author has left the kitchen.

Look for the line that reads Juxtaposition Cross of Formulization. The four numbers in brackets are the Gates of your Personality Sun and Earth, then your Design Sun and Earth, for example (4/49 | 8/14). They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.
The Formulization cross on the BodyGraph
Four Centers hold the four Gates: the Ajna, the Throat, the Sacral and the Solar Plexus. None of the four forms a Channel with another, so the cross alone defines no Channel. Gates 4 and 49, the conscious pair, are the pair the Right Angle Cross of Explanation carries. Gates 8 and 14, the Design pair, come from the Right Angle Cross of Contagion.

How the Formulization cross is placed
The Formulization (4/49 | 8/14)
Formulization is your conscious Sun and Principles your conscious Earth, so the mind's urge to give an answer a shape and the Solar Plexus's sense of what is right sit on the side you know. Contribution and Power Skills run on the Design side: a voice and an energy that others may see before you do.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 4: Formulization
Gate 4, Formulization, is the conscious Sun, and the cross carries its name. It sits in the Ajna, the Center of concepts, opinions and certainty. Its hexagram is Youthful Folly. It completes Channel 4-63, Logic, with Gate 63 in the Head, a Design of Mental Ease Mixed with Doubt. Its fourth line, The Liar, is fixed in every chart with this cross, a blunt title worth taking seriously: an answer that sounds finished has not always been tested.
Gate 49: Principles
Gate 49, Principles, is the conscious Earth and sits in the Solar Plexus. Its hexagram is Revolution, and it belongs to the Tribal circuit. It completes Channel 19-49, Synthesis, with Gate 19 in the Root, a Design of Sensitivity. It grounds the cross in what feels right and what does not. Its fourth line, Platform, is fixed here, so the principles are given a place to stand where others can see them.
Gate 8: Contribution
Gate 8, Contribution, is the Design Sun and the cross's only Throat Gate, so it is the voice. Its hexagram is Holding Together, and it belongs to the Individual circuit. It completes Channel 1-8, Inspiration, with Gate 1 in the G Center, a Design of a Creative Role Model. Its lines run from Honesty to Communion. The first, Honesty, is fixed here: below awareness, what you contribute begins with saying what is so.
Gate 14: Power Skills
Gate 14, Power Skills, is the Design Earth and sits in the Sacral, the largest motor. Its hexagram is Possession in Great Measure, and it belongs to the Individual circuit. It completes Channel 2-14, The Beat, with Gate 2 in the G Center, a Design of Being a Keeper of Keys. Its first line, Money isn't everything, is fixed here. The energy is real, but the cross treats it as a means of making the contribution, not as the point.
A conscious Sun whose fixed line carries a warning
Every chart with Formulization has Gate 4 in line 4, which the canon titles The Liar. It is the conscious Sun, so it is the line you are most aware of. The title is not a verdict on your character. It names a risk of the Gate: a formula can be offered as an answer before it has been proven.
The Gate's own Channel, 4-63, is described as Mental Ease Mixed with Doubt, and that pairing is the remedy. Where Gate 63 is in the chart, doubt tests the formula. Where it is not, the same test has to come from outside: other people, evidence, time.
A voice and an engine on the Design side
Gate 8 is the Throat Gate and Gate 14 is in the Sacral. Both are on the Design side, so the contribution and the energy to sustain it run without your effort. Others may meet you as someone who has something to give before you have decided to give it.
Both lines are line 1: Honesty and Money isn't everything. The foundation of this pair is plain: say what is true and do not make money the reason. Channels 1-8 and 2-14 both lead to the G Center, so these two Gates look to the G Center for their partners and their direction.
Thinking and feeling above, speaking and energy below
The cross spans four Centers. The Ajna and the Solar Plexus are awareness Centers, and the Solar Plexus and the Sacral are motors. The Throat completes the set, so thinking, feeling, energy and speech each have a Gate.
The split is clean. The conscious side is thinking and feeling, through Gates 4 and 49. The Design side is speaking and energy, through Gates 8 and 14. What you are aware of is the formula and the principle; what others receive is the contribution and the power.
Why the Formulization is a Juxtaposition cross
Formulization stays put. The formula, the principle, the contribution and the power all keep their positions, and so do their lines. For a cross about giving things a form, that helps: a form that kept changing would not be a form. The work is to get the formula right and keep it honest. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.
The four lines of the Formulization cross
A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Formulization cross carries these four.
| Personality Sun: Gate 4.4 The Liar | You are most aware of a formula's weak point, and you learn to test an answer before you offer it. |
|---|---|
| Personality Earth: Gate 49.4 Platform | Your principles want a stage, so what you hold to is placed where others can see and use it. |
| Design Sun: Gate 8.1 Honesty | Below awareness your contribution starts from telling the truth, and others take that for trustworthiness. |
| Design Earth: Gate 14.1 Money isn't everything | Your energy is not driven by money, and others may notice that you work well for reasons beyond pay. |
Living the Formulization cross
At work
Formulization suits work that turns experience into something others can use: teaching, writing procedures, building methods, advising. The mind forms the answer, the principle keeps it fair, and the voice and energy deliver it. Test the formula on a small group first. A method that works for three people is worth a great deal more than one that merely sounds right.
In relationships
In close relationships the cross can turn into explaining. You may have a clear rule for how things should go, and the people near you may feel they are being handed a formula instead of being heard. Share the principle, but ask what the other person's version is. Honesty here includes admitting when the rule does not fit.
In decisions
A good formula is not a decision. The Ajna can build a clear answer, but clarity is not the same as being right for you. Check the answer against your Type and your inner Authority.
Use Formulization to shape the answer after your Type and Authority have chosen it. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Formulization cross is misread
"Formulization means I am a liar"
"I should turn everything into a system"
"It is the same as the Left Angle Cross of Revolution"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 4: What answer have you given lately that you have not yet tested?
- Gate 49: Which of your principles could you stand behind in front of other people?
- Gate 8: What is true that you have not yet said?
- Gate 14: What do you do well that you would do without being paid?

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Formulization
What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Formulization?
It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 4, 8, 14 and 49, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about making things clear and useful: an answer, a contribution, the power to carry it out and the principle behind it.
What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Formulization?
They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 4.4 The Liar as the Personality Sun, 49.4 Platform as the Personality Earth, 8.1 Honesty as the Design Sun, and 14.1 Money isn't everything as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.
What does The Liar mean in Formulization?
It is the canon title of line 4 of Gate 4, which every chart with this cross carries as the conscious Sun. It names a risk of the Gate, a formula offered as an answer before it is proven, not a flaw in the person.
Which Channels do the four Gates of Formulization lead to?
Gate 4 leads to Channel 4-63 and the Head, Gate 49 to Channel 19-49 and the Root, Gate 8 to Channel 1-8 and the G Center, and Gate 14 to Channel 2-14 and the G Center. None is formed by the cross alone.
How are thinking and speaking split in Formulization?
Thinking and feeling sit on the conscious side, in the Ajna and the Solar Plexus. Speaking and energy sit on the Design side, in the Throat and the Sacral, so others often receive the contribution before you notice you are giving it.
Can the voice of Formulization be heard without Gate 1?
Gate 8 sits in the Throat on its own, but Channel 1-8 needs Gate 1 to form. Without it, the contribution has to find its way out through whatever other Channels your chart has.
