Juxtaposition Cross of Conservation
The Juxtaposition Cross of Conservation is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 32, 42, 56 and 60, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about what lasts: sensing what is worth keeping, letting it grow, and giving it a voice and a form.
Simple way to think about it: Conservation is the keeper of the seed bank. It does not plant the field or sell the harvest, but it decides what is carried from one season to the next, so there is something to grow when conditions allow.

Look for the line that reads Juxtaposition Cross of Conservation. The four numbers in brackets are the Gates of your Personality Sun and Earth, then your Design Sun and Earth, for example (32/42 | 56/60). They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.
The Conservation cross on the BodyGraph
Four Centers hold the four Gates: the Spleen, the Sacral, the Throat and the Root. None of the four forms a Channel with another, so the cross alone fixes no Channel. Gates 32 and 42, the conscious pair, are the pair the Right Angle Cross of Maya carries. Gates 56 and 60, the Design pair, come from the Right Angle Cross of Laws.

How the Conservation cross is placed
The Conservation (32/42 | 56/60)
Continuity is your conscious Sun and Growth your conscious Earth, so the Spleen's concern for what lasts and the Sacral's drive to grow are on the side you know. Stimulation and Acceptance run on the Design side: a voice that draws interest and a ground of acceptance that others may notice first.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 32: Continuity
Gate 32, Continuity, is the conscious Sun and sits in the Spleen, the Center of instinct and fear. Its hexagram is Duration, and it belongs to the Tribal circuit. It completes Channel 32-54, Transformation, with Gate 54 in the Root, a Design of Being Driven. Its lines run from Conservation to Tranquility. The fourth, Right is might, is the one every chart with this cross carries: a sense of what will last, backed by the strength to hold it in place once it is chosen.
Gate 42: Growth
Gate 42, Growth, is the conscious Earth and sits in the Sacral. Its hexagram is Increase, and it belongs to the Collective circuit. It completes Channel 42-53, Maturation, with Gate 53 in the Root, a Design of Balanced Development. It grounds the cross in the idea that things are kept so that they can grow, and that growth should be allowed to finish. Its fourth line, The Middle Man, is fixed here, a title that suggests a go-between's position.
Gate 56: Stimulation
Gate 56, Stimulation, is the Design Sun and the cross's only Throat Gate, so it is the voice. Its hexagram is The Wanderer, and it belongs to the Collective circuit. It completes Channel 11-56, Curiosity, with Gate 11 in the Ajna, a Design of a Searcher. Its lines run from Quality to Caution. The first, Quality, is fixed in this cross: below awareness the voice cares how well a thing is made before it cares how widely it is heard.
Gate 60: Acceptance
Gate 60, Acceptance, is the Design Earth and sits in the Root, the pressure Center. Its hexagram is Limitation, and it belongs to the Individual circuit. It completes Channel 3-60, Mutation, with Gate 3 in the Sacral, a Design of Energy which Fluctuates and Initiates. Its first line is also called Acceptance, and it is fixed here. The ground of the cross is taking limits as they are, which is the condition that lets something new begin inside them.
Two Gates that sit in format energy Channels
Gate 42 and Gate 60 each belong to a format energy Channel: Channel 42-53 and Channel 3-60. These are two of the three Channels that run between the Root and the Sacral, and each sets a format for the whole circuit it sits in.
In this cross they stand at opposite ends: Growth on the conscious side and Acceptance on the Design side. Whether either Channel is actually defined in your chart depends on whether Gate 53 or Gate 3 is there too. The cross offers the format; your chart decides whether it is switched on.
Pressure from below: the Root
Gate 60 is in the Root, one of the two pressure Centers, and two of the Channels this cross can complete, 32-54 and 42-53, end in the Root at Gates 54 and 53. So much of what the cross can connect to leads to pressure and drive.
The cross does not ask you to push. Conservation is about what is kept, and the Root's pressure is the reason there is anything to keep. The skill is telling pressure that wants a decision from pressure that only wants to be felt and let pass.
An instinct for what lasts and a voice for what is worth it
Gate 32 is in the Spleen, the awareness Center of the cross, which works in the present tense and speaks once. Gate 56 is the Throat Gate. Of the four Gates, these are the only ones that are neither motor nor pressure Gates: one senses and one speaks.
Gate 32 senses what will last, in the moment, and does not repeat itself. Gate 56 draws people toward ideas, with Channel 11-56 pointing from the Throat to the Ajna. The instinct is a keeper's and the voice is a searcher's, and the cross works when the voice listens to the instinct.
Why the Conservation is a Juxtaposition cross
Conservation keeps one position for a whole life, with little give. The Gates do not take turns and the four lines do not change. For a cross about what lasts, that suits it: the task is not to find a new thing to hold, but to learn what in your own life is worth holding for a long time. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.
The four lines of the Conservation cross
A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Conservation cross carries these four.
| Personality Sun: Gate 32.4 Right is might | Your instinct for what lasts comes with the strength to hold it, so what you decide to keep stays kept. |
|---|---|
| Personality Earth: Gate 42.4 The Middle Man | Your growth arrives through the role of go-between, so you move things along between people more than you finish them. |
| Design Sun: Gate 56.1 Quality | Below awareness your voice cares about quality first, and others notice the standard before you do. |
| Design Earth: Gate 60.1 Acceptance | Your ground is acceptance, so you take a limit as given and start from there instead of pushing against it. |
Living the Conservation cross
At work
Conservation suits work where continuity matters: maintaining systems, archives and standards, or keeping up long relationships with clients and craft traditions. The cross offers an eye for what should not be thrown away and a voice that cares about quality. It can chafe in settings that change for the sake of changing. Say what you want kept, and why, before it is lost.
In relationships
In relationships the cross shows up as loyalty to what has lasted. You may hold onto a pattern, a place or a person longer than others expect. That is a strength when it is chosen and a trap when it is only habit. Ask whether you are keeping something because it is good or because it is familiar.
In decisions
The cross gives you a sense of what will last, but it cannot tell you what to do. The Spleen speaks once, in the moment, and is easy to miss. Take its signal as information, not as an answer.
Decide with your Type and your inner Authority, then use the cross to judge what is worth keeping once it is chosen. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Conservation cross is misread
"Conservation means I resist all change"
"My cross tells me which Channels I have"
"Limitation and Conservation are one cross"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 32: What have you kept going for years without asking whether it is still worth keeping?
- Gate 42: Where are you passing something along between two people instead of finishing it yourself?
- Gate 56: What would you want to be known for making well, even if no one praised it?
- Gate 60: Which limit are you fighting that you could simply accept and start from?

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Conservation
What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Conservation?
It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 32, 42, 56 and 60, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about what lasts: sensing what is worth keeping, letting it grow, and giving it a voice and a form.
What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Conservation?
They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 32.4 Right is might as the Personality Sun, 42.4 The Middle Man as the Personality Earth, 56.1 Quality as the Design Sun, and 60.1 Acceptance as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.
Does Conservation define any Channel on its own?
No. The four Gates sit in four different Centers and none of them forms a Channel with another. Every Channel the cross touches needs a partner Gate from the rest of your chart: Gate 54, 53, 11 or 3.
Which Gates of Conservation belong to format energy?
Gate 42 in Channel 42-53 and Gate 60 in Channel 3-60. Both are Root to Sacral Channels, and each sets a format for the circuit it belongs to.
How many circuits does Conservation draw on?
Three. Gate 32 is Tribal, Gates 42 and 56 are Collective, and Gate 60 is Individual. The cross is spread across all three, and no single circuit defines it.
Where does the voice of Conservation sit?
In Gate 56, Stimulation, the only Throat Gate of the four and the Design Sun. Its fixed line is Quality, and it can complete Channel 11-56, Curiosity, with Gate 11 in the Ajna.
