Left Angle Cross of Distraction
The Left Angle Cross of Distraction is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 56, 60, 27 and 28. It pairs a wanderer who stirs people up with a limit that holds them, and a wish to nourish others with a taste for risk, all worked out through the people you meet.
Simple way to think about it: Distraction is the friend who tells the story that makes the whole table lean in, and who also knows when the evening has to end. People remember the story. The skill lies in choosing which one to tell and when to stop telling it.

The two rotations of the Distraction cross
Find the rotation whose first number matches your Personality Sun. The quarter it sits in gives the rotation its number, 1 or 2.
The Distraction 1 (56/60 | 27/28)
With Stimulation as your conscious Sun, the cross sits in the Civilization quarter, a purpose fulfilled through Form: you are here to spark interest in others, and Acceptance, your conscious Earth, teaches you to work inside limits. On the Design side, Caring and The Game Player run below awareness, so the way you nourish people and the risks you take show up before you plan them.
The Distraction 2 (60/56 | 28/27)
With Acceptance as your conscious Sun, the cross sits in the Mutation quarter, a purpose fulfilled through Transformation: you start from the limit, and Stimulation, the conscious Earth, is what you do once you have made peace with it. The Design Sun is now The Game Player, with Caring as the Design Earth, so your appetite for risk leads and the care follows.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 56: Stimulation
Gate 56, Stimulation, is a Throat Gate, so it is a voice. Its hexagram is The Wanderer. It completes Channel 11-56 with Gate 11 in the Ajna, named Curiosity and keynoted as a design of a searcher, in the Collective circuit. As a Sun it makes your purpose the passing on of ideas and experience that wake people up. As an Earth it gives another theme a way to be heard. Its lines run from Quality and Linkage to Attracting attention and Caution.
Gate 60: Acceptance
Gate 60, Acceptance, sits in the Root, the Center of pressure and drive. Its hexagram is Limitation. It completes Channel 3-60 with Gate 3 in the Sacral, named Mutation and keynoted as energy that fluctuates and initiates, in the Individual circuit. As a Sun it makes your purpose a matter of working inside limits instead of fighting them. As an Earth it keeps another theme practical. Its lines run from Acceptance and Decisiveness to Resourcefulness, Leadership and Rigidity.
Gate 27: Caring
Gate 27, Caring, sits in the Sacral, the Center of life force and work. Its hexagram is Nourishment. It completes Channel 27-50 with Gate 50 in the Spleen, named Preservation and keynoted as custodianship, in the Tribal circuit. In this cross it sits on the Design side in both rotations, so the urge to look after people runs underneath. Its lines run from Selfishness and Self-sufficiency to Generosity, The Executor and Wariness, a reminder that care has edges.
Gate 28: The Game Player
Gate 28, The Game Player, sits in the Spleen, the Center of instinct and fear that speaks once and in the present. Its hexagram is Preponderance of the Great. It completes Channel 28-38 with Gate 38 in the Root, named Struggle and keynoted as stubbornness, in the Individual circuit. On the Design side in both rotations, it is a quiet readiness to gamble that others may see first. Its lines include Adventurism and Blaze of glory.
A wanderer and a limit in the same pair
The conscious pair is a deliberate contrast. Gate 56 has the hexagram The Wanderer and is a Throat Gate, restless and talkative. Gate 60 has the hexagram Limitation and sits in the Root, the Center of pressure. One moves on and one holds still.
Because they face each other on the wheel, each one is the other's Earth or Sun, depending on the rotation. In Distraction 1 you are the wanderer who has to accept limits. In Distraction 2 you start from the limit and find a way to stimulate people inside it. Either way, the lesson is that a good story, or a good idea, needs edges to land.
Caring and The Game Player under the surface
The Design pair is an odd match. Gate 27 is Caring, with the hexagram Nourishment, and its lines include Generosity and Wariness. Gate 28 is The Game Player, and its lines include Shaking hands with the devil, Adventurism and Blaze of glory. One looks after others, the other bets on something that might not work.
Both sit on the Design side, so neither is chosen. You may find yourself caring for people and taking a chance in the same week without a plan for either. The cross works through other people here: those you look after, and those who join the gamble, tell you which of the two is worth keeping.
Two of the four Channels end in the Root
Gate 60 is in the Root, and its Channel, 3-60, runs between the Root and the Sacral. Gate 28's Channel, 28-38, runs from the Spleen to the Root through Gate 38. So two of the four Channels this cross can make end in the Root, the Center of adrenaline and the push to begin. The canon marks Gate 60 as part of a format energy Channel.
That is a lot of drive behind a cross called Distraction. The Root is a motor and a pressure Center, and the Sacral is a motor too, while the Spleen is the one awareness Center among the four. Energy to do things is easy to come by. Knowing which of them is worth doing falls to the single quiet signal of the Spleen.
Why the Distraction is a Left Angle cross
A Left Angle cross is lived through other people, not around a private goal. In Distraction that is close to the whole point. A story needs an audience, care needs someone to receive it, and a gamble needs a partner willing to take it. Your life is shaped by who joins you and who steps aside. The Left Angle goes with four Profiles: 5/1, 5/2, 6/2, 6/3. With one of these, these four Gates make the Left Angle cross; with a 4/1 Profile the same Gates make a Juxtaposition cross instead.
Your Sun line: how the line colors this cross
Your Personality Sun has a line as well as a Gate: the number after the dot. 56.5 means Gate 56, Line 5. Open your rotation below and find your line. The line title comes from the Rave I Ching; the sentence after it is how that line tends to color the Distraction cross.
Distraction 1: Personality Sun in Gate 56, Stimulation
| 56.1 Quality | You care about the quality of what you share, and people sense it before you say a word. |
|---|---|
| 56.2 Linkage | You connect one person's interest to another's, and the network that grows is part of your purpose. |
| 56.3 Alienation | You may feel out of step with the people you stir, and that distance is part of how you see. |
| 56.4 Expediency | You choose what to share for what works, and the cross asks you to stay honest about why. |
| 56.5 Attracting attention | People are drawn to the way you tell things, and you learn what comes with being noticed. |
| 56.6 Caution | You step back and look at what your stories have done, and you adjust how you tell them. |
Distraction 2: Personality Sun in Gate 60, Acceptance
| 60.1 Acceptance | You begin by taking the limit as it is, and from there you find the room that exists. |
|---|---|
| 60.2 Decisiveness | You decide quickly once you see what is possible, and others trust the clear cut. |
| 60.3 Conservatism | You lean toward what has already worked, and the cross asks you to know when that stops helping. |
| 60.4 Resourcefulness | You make something from what little you have, and others learn from how you stretch it. |
| 60.5 Leadership | People follow you when you show them how to work inside a limit, not when you wave it away. |
| 60.6 Rigidity | You can grow rigid about a limit, and the lesson is to loosen it once it has done its job. |
Living the Distraction cross
At work
At work, Distraction people are often the one who gets a room interested: the person who brings the example that makes the plan feel real, or the one who knows a good source. Work goes best when you have a clear limit to work within, such as a deadline or a budget. Without one, interest can spread across too many things. With one, your stories become something others can act on.
In relationships
In relationships, you may be the one who looks after people and also the one who suggests something a little risky. Both can be real gifts. Notice whether the people close to you are asking for care or asking you to take the chance with them. Those are different requests, and the cross asks you to tell them apart before you say yes to either.
In decisions
Distraction gives your life a theme, not an answer for each choice. The name is not a warning against being pulled away. A strong pull toward a story, a person or a gamble is just the cross at work. Let the pull show itself, then make the decision the way your own Strategy and Authority say.
Answer through your Type and your inner Authority, and let the cross show in the stories you choose to tell and the people you choose to look after. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Distraction cross is misread
"Distraction means I cannot focus"
"I should avoid risk because of Gate 28"
"Acceptance means I should give up"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 56: What story or idea have you been telling lately, and who has it actually reached?
- Gate 60: What limit are you pushing against right now, and what could you build inside it?
- Gate 27: Who are you looking after at the moment, and have they asked for it?
- Gate 28: Which gamble is tugging at you, and what did your first instinct say?

FAQ: Left Angle Cross of Distraction
What is the Left Angle Cross of Distraction?
It is a Left Angle Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 56, 60, 27 and 28. Its theme is stimulating and holding people, caring and risk, worked out through other people.
Which Distraction rotation do I have?
Read the four numbers after the cross name on your chart. 56/60 | 27/28 is Distraction 1, with Stimulation as your Personality Sun. 60/56 | 28/27 is Distraction 2, with Acceptance as your Personality Sun.
Does the Left Angle Cross of Distraction mean I lose focus?
No. The name does not describe your attention. The Gates are Stimulation, Acceptance, Caring and The Game Player, and the cross is about how you draw others in and how you hold them.
How does The Wanderer sit beside Acceptance in Distraction?
Gate 56, Stimulation, carries the hexagram The Wanderer and sits in the Throat. Gate 60, Acceptance, carries Limitation and sits in the Root. They are opposites and make the conscious pair, so a voice that roams is set against a Gate that knows its limits.
How do the two rotations of Distraction differ?
They hold the same four Gates in a different order. In Distraction 1 the conscious Sun is Stimulation and the Design Sun is Caring. In Distraction 2 the conscious Sun is Acceptance and the Design Sun is The Game Player.
Which Gate in Distraction sits in an awareness Center?
Only Gate 28, in the Spleen. Gates 27 and 60 are in the Sacral and the Root, which are motors, and Gate 56 is in the Throat, which is neither. The Spleen is the cross's one awareness Center.
