How the Contribution cross is placed

The Contribution (8/14 | 55/59)

Contribution is your conscious Sun and Power Skills your conscious Earth, so the voice and the skill are the parts of you that you know best. Spirit and Sexuality run on the Design side, which is why people around you may feel a depth of mood and a pull in you that you do not often put into words.

The four Gates in plain language

Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.

Gate 8: Contribution

Gate 8, Contribution, is the conscious Sun and gives the cross its name. It is the only Gate here in the Throat itself, and its hexagram is Holding Together. It completes Channel 1-8, Inspiration, with Gate 1 in the G Center, a Channel of the Individual circuit. Its lines run from Honesty and Service to Dharma and Communion. The fourth, Respect, is fixed in this cross, so the voice comes with an eye for what other people are owed. What you add is not offered from above; it is offered with regard for who receives it.

Gate 14: Power Skills

Gate 14, Power Skills, is the conscious Earth and sits in the Sacral. Its hexagram is Possession in Great Measure. It completes Channel 2-14, The Beat, with Gate 2 in the G Center. Its lines move from Money isn't everything and Management to Arrogance and Humility, and the fourth, Security, is the one this cross always carries. The skill underneath the voice is the kind that builds something secure, which is why the contribution tends to be practical and dependable before it is flashy.

Gate 55: Spirit

Gate 55, Spirit, is the Design Sun, lived without thinking. It sits in the Solar Plexus, and its hexagram is Abundance. It completes Channel 39-55, Emoting, with Gate 39 in the Root. Its lines run from Cooperation and Distrust to Growth and Selfishness. Cooperation, the first, is fixed here: the feeling side of this cross begins by working with others instead of against them. Others may see a mood-driven generosity in you before you recognize it yourself.

Gate 59: Sexuality

Gate 59, Sexuality, is the Design Earth. It sits in the Sacral, and its hexagram is Dispersion. It completes Channel 6-59, Mating, with Gate 6 in the Solar Plexus, the one Tribal Channel in this cross. Its lines move from The pre-emptive strike through Shyness and Openness to The one night stand. The first line, The pre-emptive strike, is fixed here: a habit of moving first, before being moved on. In a cross about giving, it can show up as getting your offer in early.

A Throat Gate in the Sun position

The Throat is where everything that leaves you passes through, and Gate 8 is the only Gate in this cross that sits there. Because it is also the conscious Sun, the part of you that speaks and shows what you contribute is the most visible part of your design. You are likely to know your own voice well.

A Gate in the Throat does not make you talk. Gate 8 needs its Channel partner to complete anything, and Gate 1 sits in the G Center, the Center of identity and direction. So the contribution is meant to carry who you are, not simply what you know.

Two conscious Gates pointing at the same Center

Gate 8 and Gate 14 are both on the Personality side, and both have their Channel partner in the G Center. Channel 1-8 runs from the Throat to the G, and Channel 2-14 from the Sacral to the G. Both belong to the Individual circuit, in its Knowing group.

So what you consciously offer, a voice and a skill, both reach toward identity and direction. If your contribution only feels worth giving when it matches who you are, this is why. The cross does not complete those Channels for you, since Gates 1 and 2 are not part of it.

The Solar Plexus on the Design side

Both Design Gates lean on the Solar Plexus, the Center of emotions and waves, and both a motor and an awareness Center. Gate 55 sits inside it, and Gate 59, from the Sacral, completes Channel 6-59 with Gate 6 there. Channel 39-55 then connects it to the Root.

The feeling life of this cross is therefore mostly below the surface. You may find your sense of what to give shifts with mood or season, and that the clearest answer rarely comes in the first hour. That is a reason to give an offer some time, not a reason to give less.

Why the Contribution is a Juxtaposition cross

In Contribution the fixed position is the giver's chair. You do not trade it for the role of student, leader or witness the way other crosses might shift through a life. The same voice, the same skill, the same feeling base stay with you, and the question is what you set on the table. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.

The four lines of the Contribution cross

A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Contribution cross carries these four.

Living the Contribution cross

At work

People with this cross often do well where a skill and a voice meet: teaching, advising, building something and explaining it, or leading a small group that depends on you. Respect and security are the tone of it. Let the sense of what to offer develop over a few days rather than in the first meeting, since the Design side is feeling-based.

In relationships

In close relationships the cross can show up as being the one who gives: practical help, honest words, a steady presence. The caution is the Design side. Mood, and a habit of moving first, can mean giving more than you meant to or giving before you know what the other person wants. Ask, and let your own answer settle.

In decisions

Voice, skill and feeling all offer input, but none of them is your Authority. The cross does not fix your Type or Authority, because no Channel is completed among its own four Gates. Decide with the Type and Authority your whole chart gives you.

Let the cross describe what you tend to give, and your Type and Authority decide when and to whom. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
