Located in the Solar Plexus Center. Gate 55 carries your relationship with spirit: the emotional awareness of whether life feels abundant or empty right now. Abundance here is not a material condition. It is how you feel about what you have, not what you actually have.
What they create together
Energy flows from Gate 39 in the Root into Gate 55 in the Solar Plexus. Your body feels the push to provoke before the emotion registers; the provocation stirs the wave, and the wave shows whether spirit is present. When the provocation meets real spirit, the mood erupts in creative passion. When it meets emptiness, the mood drops into melancholy. Both states are the mechanism working correctly.

Abundance is strictly a question of spirit
That is the Human Design teaching about Gate 55. When the mood is high, a simple meal feels like a feast. When the mood is low, a feast feels like nothing. Willpower does not change this perception. It is the wave.

The cup is always there and always has something in it: your life. At the peak of the wave it overflows; in the valley it feels empty. The awareness comes when you see the cup is both half-full and half-empty, being emptied and filled at once. Spirit is not about which view is correct. It is the wonder that the cup exists at all.
The mood as compass
Your mood is your compass: when the spirit is high, everything is possible; when it is low, nothing lands, however good it looks on paper. If you are not in the mood to work, socialize, make love or create, it is not correct for you to do it yet. When the spirit is present, engagement is correct. When it is absent, stepping back is correct, and forcing it produces the wrong engagement.
If your provocation makes someone collapse, they are not for you. When someone collapses under Gate 39's pressure, they are not your person. When they rise and meet you with their own spirit, they might be. The provocation is a compatibility test, not cruelty.

You feel the moods, the abundance and the emptiness, but without Gate 39's pressure the wave lacks a steady catalyst. You are drawn to people with Gate 39, whose provocation wakes your spirit and gives the wave something to respond to.
When the channel completes
When someone with Gate 39 meets someone with Gate 55, the full Channel of Emoting switches on between them: one provokes, the other answers with spirit, and the bond can be intensely passionate and deeply moody. A transit through the missing gate completes the channel for a while too, a window into how the whole wave feels.
