Juxtaposition Cross of Behavior

The Juxtaposition Cross of Behavior is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 10, 15, 17 and 18, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about conduct: two G Center Gates decide how you carry yourself, and two quiet awareness Gates check it.

The four numbers in brackets are the Gates of your Personality Sun and Earth, then your Design Sun and Earth, for example (10/15 | 18/17). They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.

The Behavior cross on the BodyGraph

Three Centers hold the four Gates. Gates 10 and 15 are both in the G Center, so the whole conscious side belongs to identity and direction. Gate 18 sits in the Spleen and Gate 17 in the Ajna, both awareness Centers, on the Design side. The conscious pair comes from the Right Angle Cross of The Vessel of Love; the Design pair comes from the Right Angle Cross of Service.

The Behavior of the Self is your conscious Sun and Extremes your conscious Earth, so everything you can see in yourself is G Center. Correction and Opinions run on the Design side, which means the checking happens quietly, below the part of you that decides who you are.

The four Gates in plain language

Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.

Gate 10: The Behavior of the Self

Gate 10, The Behavior of the Self, is the conscious Sun and sits in the G Center. Its hexagram is Treading, walking carefully along a path where a misstep shows. This is the Gate the cross takes its word from. It can complete three Channels: 10-20 into the Throat, 10-34 into the Sacral and 10-57 into the Spleen. Its fourth line, The Opportunist, is fixed here, so your conduct works best through a network of people you already know rather than alone.

Gate 15: Extremes

Gate 15, Extremes, is the conscious Earth and the second G Center Gate. Its name and its hexagram, Modesty, pull in different directions, and that pull is the Gate: wide range, kept in check. It completes Channel 5-15, Rhythm, with Gate 5 in the Sacral, a Channel whose keynote is being in the flow. Its fourth line is The Wallflower, so in this cross the Earth is the one at the edge of the room, watching how things go before stepping in.

Gate 18: Correction

Gate 18, Correction, is the Design Sun and sits in the Spleen, the Center of instinct and fear. Its hexagram is Work on What Has Been Spoilt. It completes Channel 18-58, Judgment, with Gate 58 in the Root, a Channel keynoted as insatiability. Its first line, Conservatism, is fixed in this cross: the instinct to keep what has been proven to work and to repair it rather than throw it out. The Spleen speaks once, in the present, so the correction tends to arrive as a sudden knowing.

Gate 17: Opinions

Gate 17, Opinions, is the Design Earth and the cross's only Ajna Gate. Its hexagram is Following. It completes Channel 17-62, Acceptance, with Gate 62 in the Throat, which gives the Ajna a way to reach the voice. Its first line, Openness, is fixed here, so the opinion begins as willingness to listen. The Ajna holds concepts and certainty, and in this cross it grounds the Spleen's correction with something that can be put into words.

Two G Center Gates carry everything you know

The G Center is identity, direction and love, and it holds the sense of being in the right place. Gates 10 and 15 are both in it, and in this cross both sit on the Personality side. The part of you that is conscious is the part that asks who you are and where you belong.

The two Gates also stand opposite each other on the wheel, which is why one is the Sun and the other the Earth. Gate 10 belongs to the Individual circuit and Gate 15 to the Collective, so the conscious pair already holds a bit of both: being yourself, and being among everyone else.

Two awareness Centers doing the checking

The Spleen and the Ajna are both awareness Centers, and both carry Design Gates here. Gate 18 and Gate 17 are also opposites on the wheel, so this pair mirrors the conscious one. The Spleen knows in the present and speaks only once. The Ajna turns what is known into a concept or an opinion.

Neither is a motor and neither is loud. The cross does its checking the way a good editor does: it notices what is off, offers a better version and leaves the decision to you.

A cross with no engine of its own

None of the four Gates sits in a motor Center. What the cross has is reach. Gate 10 opens toward the Throat, Sacral and Spleen, Gate 15 toward the Sacral, Gate 17 toward the Throat and Gate 18 toward the Root.

Whether any of those doors are wired up depends on the rest of your chart. The cross gives the character and the lines. The energy to act on them comes from the Channels you actually have defined.

Why the Behavior is a Juxtaposition cross

Behavior is a cross with one way of standing. The same Treading, the same Modesty, the same Following run the whole of life, and nothing about them is meant to rotate into a different role. The work is to get comfortable with how you carry yourself and to choose where it is seen. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.

The four lines of the Behavior cross

A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Behavior cross carries these four.

Personality Sun: Gate 10.4 The OpportunistYour conduct runs through people you already trust, so who is around you shapes how you act more than you may admit.
Personality Earth: Gate 15.4 The WallflowerYour ground is the quiet observer, someone who watches how a room works before stepping into it.
Design Sun: Gate 18.1 ConservatismBelow awareness you lean toward keeping what has been proven and repairing it before you replace it.
Design Earth: Gate 17.1 OpennessYour opinions start by listening, so you take in what others say before settling on a view.

Living the Behavior cross

At work

People with Behavior often set the tone of a team without trying. The way they show up, steady and watchful, tells others what is acceptable. They tend to do well where standards matter, such as quality, training, editing or care work, and where the repair of something old is valued over starting from scratch. It helps to work inside a group you know, because the fourth line of Gate 10 is built for a network.

In relationships

Close to home, your conduct is the message. A partner reads the way you walk in at the end of the day long before they hear what you say. Say out loud what you are carrying, because the watchfulness of Gate 15 can look like distance. The openness of Gate 17 helps: let people finish before you answer.

In decisions

The G Center knows direction, but it does not decide for you, and the Spleen speaks only once. Do not wait for a second signal.

Decide with your Type and Authority first, then let the cross show you how you carry the decision once it is made. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.

When the Behavior cross is misread

"Behavior means I am supposed to act a certain way"

Gate 10 is The Behavior of the Self, a G Center Gate. The word names how you carry yourself, not a standard you must meet. Nothing in the canon turns it into a rule of conduct.

"Opinions means I should speak up more"

Gate 17 is in the Ajna, which forms concepts but does not speak. Its Channel 17-62 reaches the Throat through Gate 62, and its fixed first line, Openness, starts with listening.

"It is the same as the Left Angle Cross of Prevention"

The four Gates match. The Profile does not. Behavior comes only with 4/1 and fixes all four lines, while Prevention is lived with 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 or 6/3 and worked out through other people.

Questions to sit with

One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.

  1. Gate 10: When you walk into a room, what do you want people to read first, and is that what they read?
  2. Gate 15: Where do you hold back at the edge of a group, and what would you notice if you stayed there longer?
  3. Gate 18: What is one thing you have been repairing for a long time that may only need to be kept?
  4. Gate 17: Who did you last let finish speaking before you formed your own view?

Each one holds Gates of this cross or completes a Channel with it.

A Human Design reading is written from your exact chart, so it shows how your four fixed lines work with your Type, Authority and defined Channels, and which of the Channels these Gates can complete are actually yours. Nothing is guessed from the cross name alone.

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Behavior

What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Behavior?

It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 10, 15, 17 and 18, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about conduct, with two G Center Gates up front and a Spleen and an Ajna Gate checking underneath.

What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Behavior?

They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 10.4 The Opportunist as the Personality Sun, 15.4 The Wallflower as the Personality Earth, 18.1 Conservatism as the Design Sun, and 17.1 Openness as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.

Which Centers does the Behavior cross touch?

Three: the G Center through Gates 10 and 15, the Spleen through Gate 18, and the Ajna through Gate 17. None of them is a motor, and the Spleen and Ajna are both awareness Centers.

Where do the Behavior Gates open onto the Throat?

Two ways. Gate 10 completes Channel 10-20 with Gate 20, and Gate 17 completes Channel 17-62 with Gate 62. Both Channels end in the Throat, but they only exist in your chart if the partner Gate is also active.

Do the Behavior Gates connect to any motor?

Only through partners. Gate 10 pairs with Gate 34 in the Sacral, Gate 15 with Gate 5 in the Sacral, and Gate 18 with Gate 58 in the Root. The cross itself carries no motor Gate.

Who else shares the Behavior Gates in other crosses?

Gates 10 and 15 also appear in the Right Angle Cross of The Vessel of Love, and Gates 17 and 18 in the Right Angle Cross of Service. Behavior combines one pair from each, which is why it reads like both and neither.
