Right Angle Cross of Rulership
The Right Angle Cross of Rulership is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 22, 47, 26 and 45. It joins grace, realization, the salesperson's craft and the gathering of people and resources. Its theme is how authority is earned and used, lived through your own experience.
Simple way to think about it: Rulership is less like a crown and more like a table at a gathering. Someone has to set it, welcome people, make the case for staying, and keep the supplies flowing. Whoever does all that is, in practice, the one the room turns to. The cross is about that kind of quiet authority.

The Rulership cross on the BodyGraph
Rulership covers more awareness than most crosses. Gate 22 sits in the Solar Plexus, which is both a motor and an awareness Center. Gate 26 is in the Heart, a motor. Gate 47 is in the Ajna, an awareness Center, and Gate 45 is in the Throat. Two motors and two awareness Centers are among its four Gates.

The four rotations of the Rulership cross
Find the rotation whose first number matches your Personality Sun. The quarter it sits in gives the rotation its number, 1 to 4.
The Rulership 1 (22/47 | 26/45)
With Openness as the conscious Sun, rulership begins with grace and the willingness to be reached. Realization is your conscious Earth, so understanding follows feeling. The Egoist and the Gatherer run on the Design side, which means a talent for persuading and bringing people together shows up naturally, often before you claim it.
The Rulership 2 (45/26 | 22/47)
Here the Gatherer leads. You are aware of what the group needs and how to bring it together, and The Egoist, as the conscious Earth, adds the nerve to argue the case. Openness and Realization work underneath, so grace and a slow sense of understanding shape how people receive you without effort.
The Rulership 3 (47/22 | 45/26)
With Realization as your Sun, rulership is something you reach by seeing a situation through, often after hard going. Openness is the conscious Earth, which keeps the understanding gentle. The Gatherer and The Egoist sit on the Design side, so your pull to gather people and sell an idea works quietly in the background.
The Rulership 4 (26/45 | 47/22)
The Egoist leads in this version. You know what you want and say so, and your sense of your own worth is the conscious theme. The Gatherer is the conscious Earth, giving it a group to speak to. Realization and Openness run on the Design side, shaping how you feel and what you understand underneath.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 22: Openness
Gate 22, Openness, sits in the Solar Plexus and is the Gate of grace: a willingness to be reached and to reach others, with timing that depends on mood. Its lines run from Second class ticket to Maturity, a path of learning how to carry charm with substance. As a Sun, your purpose runs on a feeling for how to approach people. As an Earth, it softens a harder theme. Its Channel, also called Openness, runs to Gate 12 in the Throat, where feeling can become speech when the moment is right.
Gate 47: Realization
Gate 47, Realization, sits in the Ajna and is the mental Gate of making sense of the past. Its lines run from Taking stock to Futility, so the path to understanding includes stretches of feeling oppressed or stuck. As a Sun, your purpose runs on turning scattered memories into something that makes sense. As an Earth, it adds reflection to a practical theme. Its Channel, Abstraction, runs to Gate 64 in the Head, where the picture of what happened meets the question of what it means.
Gate 26: The Egoist
Gate 26, The Egoist, sits in the Heart and is the Gate of the salesperson: the one who argues for something and gets it across. Its lines run from A bird in the hand to Authority, and one of them, Censorship, is about choosing what to leave out. As a Sun, your purpose runs on the craft of persuasion and self-worth. As an Earth, it grounds a softer theme with confidence. Its Channel, Surrender, runs to Gate 44 in the Spleen, where an instinct about who and what to trust joins the pitch.
Gate 45: The Gatherer
Gate 45, The Gatherer, sits in the Throat and is the Gate of bringing a group together and holding what it needs. Its lines run from Canvassing to Reconsideration, and include Leadership as one of them. As a Sun, your purpose runs on gathering people and resources around a shared direction. As an Earth, it gives your other themes a voice. Its Channel, Money Line, runs to Gate 21 in the Heart, a direct link between willpower and the Throat. Because it sits in the Throat itself, the Gatherer speaks directly: what you say is how the group finds out it is being gathered.
Two Channels that connect a motor straight to the Throat
Most crosses have one route from drive to voice at best. Rulership has two. Openness (12-22) joins the Solar Plexus to the Throat. Money Line (21-45) joins the Heart to the Throat. Both are manifesting Channels, because they link a motor directly to the Throat, and the Gates of Rulership sit at one end of each.
That does not mean you have those Channels. They are complete only if you have the partner Gate too, Gate 12 or Gate 21. But the cross points toward them. Rulership is built for making things happen through speech and action, where feeling or willpower goes straight out into the world. Without a partner Gate, you may find it easiest to rule in the company of people who have it.
Willpower and feeling: the Heart and the Solar Plexus
Rulership uses two different motors. The Heart is the smallest motor in the chart, tied to willpower and worth. The Solar Plexus is emotions and the wave, both a motor and an awareness Center. Gate 26 sits in the Heart and Gate 22 in the Solar Plexus.
These two pull in different directions. Gate 26 wants to make its case and be rewarded for it. Gate 22 is open, moody and responsive to timing. A person with this cross can feel both at once: confident one hour and soft the next. Neither is wrong. The cross asks you to let feeling shape when you speak, and to let willpower decide what you commit to.
Feeling and thinking: two awareness Centers in one cross
The Solar Plexus and the Ajna are both awareness Centers. Rulership has a Gate in each: Openness in the Solar Plexus, Realization in the Ajna. One is felt, the other is thought. Neither is the instinct of the Spleen, so there is no Gate in this cross that senses in the moment.
That gives Rulership a slower kind of knowing. Feelings need time to settle, and realizations arrive late. Rule too fast and you are acting on neither. The cross rewards patience: let the mood pass, let the pieces fit, and then say what you see. Authority built this way tends to last, and people trust it because it was not rushed.
Why the Rulership is a Right Angle cross
A Right Angle cross is a personal destiny. The purpose is lived through your own experience, and other people are not the point of it. For Rulership that is worth noticing, because a cross with this name can look like it is about ruling over others. It is not. You are learning to govern your own feelings, worth and words first. Others benefit afterward. The Right Angle goes with seven Profiles: 1/3, 1/4, 2/4, 2/5, 3/5, 3/6, 4/6. If your Profile is one of these, your cross is a Right Angle cross.
Your Sun line: how the line colors this cross
Your Personality Sun has a line as well as a Gate: the number after the dot. 13.4 means Gate 13, Line 4. Open your rotation below and find your line. The line title comes from the Rave I Ching; the sentence after it is how that line tends to color the Rulership cross.

| 26.6 Authority | Authority is the settled confidence of someone who has earned the right to be heard. |
Living the Rulership cross
At work
People with Rulership often end up where people, money and persuasion meet: sales, organizing, fundraising, community building, management, speaking. Work goes best when you can gather a group around something you believe in and have room to argue for it. A job that gives you responsibility without a say, or all talk with no group to gather, tends to wear the cross thin. The Throat and Heart in this cross want to be used.
In relationships
In close relationships Rulership can show up as the person who organizes the family, speaks up for it and holds the household together. It can also show up as strong opinions and hurt feelings in the same hour. Tell the people close to you which one is running. Let your Solar Plexus mood settle before you pitch a point, and let others finish before you gather them toward your view.
In decisions
With a strong Heart Gate and a persuasive streak, it is easy to decide quickly and then sell the decision. Do it the other way round. Make the decision with your Strategy and Authority first, and only then use Rulership to bring people along. If your Authority is emotional, the cross itself recommends waiting: its Solar Plexus Gate runs on a wave.
Let your Type and inner Authority make each choice, and use Rulership to see how you gather, persuade and lead after the decision is made. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Rulership cross is misread
"Rulership means I am meant to be in charge"
"The Egoist means I am selfish"
"Two manifesting Channels means I can make things happen on demand"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 22: When did being open with someone change how they treated you, and how did you know the moment was right?
- Gate 47: What from your past still does not make sense, and what would you need to see it clearly?
- Gate 26: What are you trying to get across right now, and is your case honest?
- Gate 45: Who are you gathering, and what do they actually need from you?

FAQ: Right Angle Cross of Rulership
What is the Right Angle Cross of Rulership?
It is one of the 16 Right Angle Incarnation Crosses in Human Design, made of Gates 22, 47, 26 and 45. Its Gates sit in the Solar Plexus, Ajna, Heart and Throat, and its theme is grace, realization, persuasion and gathering.
Which Rulership rotation do I have?
Read the four numbers after the cross name on your chart. 22/47 | 26/45 is Rulership 1, 45/26 | 22/47 is Rulership 2, 47/22 | 45/26 is Rulership 3, and 26/45 | 47/22 is Rulership 4. The first number is your Personality Sun.
Why does Gate 26, The Egoist, have a line called Authority?
Line 6 of Gate 26, which sits in the Heart, is titled Authority. It is only the name of a line, not your inner Authority in Strategy and Authority. That comes from your whole chart. Gate 26 ends its run of lines, from A bird in the hand to Authority, inside Rulership.
What are manifesting Channels, and does Rulership have them?
A manifesting Channel joins a motor directly to the Throat. Two of Rulership's Channels are this kind: Openness (12-22), from the Solar Plexus, and Money Line (21-45), from the Heart. They are only active if you have the partner Gate as well.
Does Rulership have two awareness Centers?
Yes. The Solar Plexus, where Gate 22 sits, and the Ajna, where Gate 47 sits, are both awareness Centers. Rulership has no Gate in the Spleen, the instinctive awareness Center, so its sense of things tends to arrive more slowly.
Does Gate 45, The Gatherer, end with leadership?
Not quite. Leadership is line 5 of Gate 45, and line 6 is Reconsideration. The Gate starts with Canvassing and Consensus, so gathering people comes first, leading comes later, and rethinking comes last. Gate 45 is the Throat Gate of Rulership, so this gathering is spoken aloud.
