Juxtaposition Cross of Interaction
The Juxtaposition Cross of Interaction is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 7, 13, 23 and 43, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about how a person meets others: a pair of G Center Gates that listen and lead, and an insight that finds a voice.
Simple way to think about it: Interaction is the switchboard operator. Calls come in from every direction, and the work is to listen, connect the right parties, and know when to say nothing at all.

Look for the line that reads Juxtaposition Cross of Interaction. The four numbers in brackets are the Gates of your Personality Sun and Earth, then your Design Sun and Earth, for example (7/13 | 23/43). They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.
The Interaction cross on the BodyGraph
Three Centers hold the four Gates: the G Center, the Throat and the Ajna. Gates 7 and 13 are both in the G Center and are the conscious pair, the same pair the Right Angle Cross of The Sphinx carries. Gates 23 and 43 are the Design pair, and the Right Angle Cross of Explanation carries them.

How the Interaction cross is placed
The Interaction (7/13 | 23/43)
The Role of the Self in Interaction is your conscious Sun and The Listener your conscious Earth, so both G Center Gates sit on the side you know. Assimilation and Insight are the Design Sun and Earth, so the translation of ideas into speech runs below awareness, and others may see it before you do.
The four Gates in plain language
Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.
Gate 7: The Role of the Self in Interaction
Gate 7, The Role of the Self in Interaction, is the Personality Sun and sits in the G Center. Its hexagram is The Army. It completes Channel 7-31, The Alpha, with Gate 31 in the Throat, a Collective Channel. The cross shares the word Interaction with this Gate's name. Its fixed line is 4, The Abdicator: the Sun here knows when to hand the lead to someone else. Leading, in this cross, includes stepping back at the right moment.
Gate 13: The Listener
Gate 13, The Listener, is the Personality Earth and also sits in the G Center. Its hexagram is The Fellowship of Man. It completes Channel 13-33, The Prodigal, with Gate 33 in the Throat, a Collective Channel. As the Earth it is the ground under the cross: the attention that takes in what others bring. Its fixed line is 4, Fatigue. Listening costs something, and the cross does not hide that. Rest is part of how this Gate keeps working.
Gate 23: Assimilation
Gate 23, Assimilation, is the Design Sun and the cross's Throat Gate. Its hexagram is Splitting Apart. With Gate 43 it forms Channel 23-43, Structuring, an Individual Channel. Its fixed line is 1, Proselytization: the first impulse is to spread what has been understood. Working below awareness, it means others may hear you putting an idea across before you have decided to do it, and the line is always present in this cross.
Gate 43: Insight
Gate 43, Insight, is the Design Earth and the cross's only Ajna Gate. Its hexagram is Breakthrough. It completes Channel 23-43, Structuring, with Gate 23, an Individual Channel. As the ground under the Design pair, it supplies the understanding that Gate 23 then says. Its fixed line is 1, Patience: the breakthrough cannot be hurried. The insight arrives when it arrives, and the cross is built to wait for it.
Every Channel here ends at the Throat
Three Channels are in play: 7-31, 13-33 and 23-43. All three reach the Throat. The cross's own Gates sit in the G Center and the Ajna, and the Throat is where each Channel finishes. Interaction is, in effect, a cross about what finally comes out of the mouth.
Only one of the three is certain. Gates 23 and 43 are both in the cross, so Channel 23-43 is defined in every chart that carries it, which also defines the Ajna and the Throat. The other two depend on whether Gate 31 or Gate 33 is in your chart.
A cross with no motor of its own
None of the four Gates sits in a motor Center. The G Center, the Throat and the Ajna are the three that this cross touches, and none of them supplies drive. Interaction is therefore a cross about direction, listening and expression, not about energy.
That is not a weakness in the design. It means the cross does not push. What it offers is attention to who is in the room, and an idea that can be passed along. The energy to act has to come from elsewhere in your chart.
Leading and listening, side by side
Gate 7 and Gate 13 are both in the G Center, the Center of direction and identity. Gate 7 is about the role the self plays when other people are involved, and Gate 13 is about taking in what they bring. Together they describe a pair that leads by listening and listens by leading.
Both have the same line number, 4. The Abdicator and Fatigue are both about limits: when to hand the lead to someone else, and when the listening has used you up. Knowing those limits is a large part of living this cross.
Why the Interaction is a Juxtaposition cross
A Juxtaposition cross keeps one position, and Interaction's position is in the middle of other people. It does not move from role to role. The fixed fate here is to stay in the exchange: to be the one who listens, connects and passes on, and to find out how that role can be done without wearing you out. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.
The four lines of the Interaction cross
A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Interaction cross carries these four.
| Personality Sun: Gate 7.4 The Abdicator | You lead in a way that knows when to step back, handing the role to someone else when the moment calls for it. |
|---|---|
| Personality Earth: Gate 13.4 Fatigue | Your listening has a cost, and tiredness is part of the pattern, so rest is built into how you keep going. |
| Design Sun: Gate 23.1 Proselytization | Below awareness your first impulse is to spread what you have understood, and others may see that before you do. |
| Design Earth: Gate 43.1 Patience | Your insight cannot be hurried, so you wait for the breakthrough to come and then let it be spoken. |
Living the Interaction cross
At work
People with Interaction are often at the center of an exchange: moderators, interpreters, facilitators, advisors, anyone who holds a conversation open and keeps it moving. The cross works best when the role has real contact with others and a clear end, so the listening can finish. It struggles when listening never stops.
In relationships
In relationships the cross can make you the one everyone talks to. That is a gift and a load. Fatigue is a fixed line here, so it is worth saying plainly when you have heard enough for the day. A partner who knows that your listening has a limit can take care of it instead of draining it.
In decisions
Hearing everyone out is not the same as deciding. The G Center and the Throat can take in and express many views, but they cannot tell you which one is correct for you.
Make the choice with your Type and your inner Authority, then bring the cross to the conversation about it. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.
When the Interaction cross is misread
"The Abdicator means I give up too easily"
"Listening all day should not tire me"
"It is just the Left Angle Cross of Masks"
Questions to sit with
One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.
- Gate 7: When did you last hand the lead to someone else, and was it the right moment?
- Gate 13: Whose words are you carrying right now, and how tired are you of carrying them?
- Gate 23: What idea are you already spreading without having decided to?
- Gate 43: What breakthrough are you waiting on, and what would it take to wait without pushing?

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Interaction
What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Interaction?
It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 7, 13, 23 and 43, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about meeting others: two G Center Gates that lead and listen, and an insight that finds a voice.
What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Interaction?
They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 7.4 The Abdicator as the Personality Sun, 13.4 Fatigue as the Personality Earth, 23.1 Proselytization as the Design Sun, and 43.1 Patience as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.
Is every chart with Interaction defined in the Ajna and the Throat?
Yes. Gates 23 and 43 are both in the cross, and every chart carries all four Gates, so Channel 23-43 is always defined. That defines both the Ajna and the Throat, and it means nobody with this cross is a Reflector.
What does it mean that Interaction has no motor Gate?
None of its four Gates sits in a motor Center. The cross is about direction, listening and expression, not about drive. The energy to act has to come from the rest of your chart, not from the cross itself.
Where do the Channels of Interaction lead?
To the Throat. Channels 7-31, 13-33 and 23-43 all touch it. Only 23-43 is certain, since both of its Gates are in the cross. The other two depend on whether Gate 31 or Gate 33 is also in your chart.
How do Gates 7 and 13 differ as the conscious pair?
Both sit in the G Center. Gate 7, the Sun, is about the role of the self among others and carries The Abdicator. Gate 13, the Earth, is about listening and carries Fatigue. One leads and steps back, the other takes in and tires.
