Simple way to think about it: Grace is a tide pool on a rocky shore. The water comes in on its own schedule, and what is left behind is worth looking at, but nobody gets to rush the tide. Everything that lives in the pool depends on the water.

Three Centers hold the four Gates. Gate 22 is in the Solar Plexus, Gates 11 and 47 are both in the Ajna, and Gate 12 is in the Throat. The conscious pair, 22 and 47, is the pair the Right Angle Cross of Rulership carries. The Design pair, 11 and 12, comes from the Right Angle Cross of Eden.

Openness is your conscious Sun and Realization your conscious Earth, so a feeling and a mental click are the two things you know most directly. Ideas and Caution run on the Design side, which is why others may see a quiet restraint in how you share what you think before you notice it yourself.

The four Gates in plain language

Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.

Gate 22: Openness

Gate 22, Openness, is the conscious Sun and the cross's only Solar Plexus Gate. Its hexagram is Grace. It completes Channel 12-22, Openness, with Gate 12 in the Throat, and in this cross that Channel is always whole. Its lines run from Second class ticket and Charm school to Directness and Maturity. The fourth, Sensitivity, is fixed here, so the feeling Sun comes with an awareness of how others are receiving you. That sensitivity is the working part of the design.

Gate 47: Realization

Gate 47, Realization, is the conscious Earth and sits in the Ajna. Its hexagram is Oppression. It completes Channel 47-64, Abstraction, with Gate 64 in the Head, a Channel of the Collective circuit. Its lines move from Taking stock and Ambition to The Saint and Futility. The fourth, Repression, is the one this cross always carries. The line names a pressure, so the mental click you reach comes with the pull to hold it back. What you realize and what you let out are two separate steps.

Gate 11: Ideas

Gate 11, Ideas, is the Design Sun, lived without thinking. It sits in the Ajna, and its hexagram is Peace. It completes Channel 11-56, Curiosity, with Gate 56 in the Throat. Its lines run from Attunement and Rigour to The Philanthropist and Adaptability. Attunement, the first, is fixed here: the ideas begin by tuning in to what is around them before they take shape. Others may notice you picking up the mood of a room and turning it into a thought.

Gate 12: Caution

Gate 12, Caution, is the Design Earth and the cross's only Throat Gate. Its hexagram is Standstill. It is the other half of Channel 12-22 with Gate 22, which connects the Solar Plexus to the Throat. Its lines move from The Monk to Metamorphosis, and the first, The Monk, is fixed in this cross. At the base of the design is a pull toward stillness and withdrawal, the part of the voice that waits to be certain that what it says is worth saying.

A Channel that decides your Authority

Gates 12 and 22 are both in this cross and together form Channel 12-22. Every chart with this cross carries all four Gates, so the Channel is always defined, which means the Solar Plexus is always defined and nobody with the cross is a Reflector.

A defined Solar Plexus gives everyone with this cross Emotional Authority. That is a fixed rule of the cross, not a tendency. Whatever else your chart says, the decisions you most need to make come through emotional waves, and the clearest answer is the one that is still there after the wave has passed.

A direct line from feeling to voice

Channel 12-22 runs from the Solar Plexus, a motor, straight to the Throat. In the canon that makes it a manifesting Channel, one that can turn what you feel into something said or done without any other Center in the way.

That is a strong thing to have fixed in a cross whose conscious Sun is a feeling. It also means the voice carries the mood of the moment. Gate 12's fixed first line, The Monk, is the brake: a built-in preference for waiting before speaking, which suits a Channel that could otherwise speak very quickly.

Two Gates in the mind, one conscious and one not

The Ajna is an awareness Center, and the cross puts one Gate there on each side: Gate 47 conscious, Gate 11 Design. Both complete Collective circuit Channels, 47-64 to the Head and 11-56 to the Throat, but neither is defined by the cross itself.

So the mental side is real but unfinished. It depends on Gates 64 and 56 to turn the thought into a Channel, and on the Solar Plexus to tell you when it is time to act. Thoughts and realizations are worth recording; decisions wait for the feeling to settle.

Why the Grace is a Juxtaposition cross

In Grace the fixed position is a feeling Sun, held for life. No other role waits behind it. You may spend years wishing the tide would turn on a schedule, and what the cross asks instead is that you stop treating the waiting as a problem and let it become the way you know when something is right. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.

The four lines of the Grace cross

A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Grace cross carries these four.

Personality Sun: Gate 22.4 SensitivityYour feelings come with sensitivity to how others receive you, and that awareness is part of the design.
Personality Earth: Gate 47.4 RepressionYour realizations arrive with a pull to hold them back, so insight and expression become two separate steps.
Design Sun: Gate 11.1 AttunementBelow awareness your ideas begin by attuning to the moods and conditions around you before they take shape.
Design Earth: Gate 12.1 The MonkAt your base the voice leans toward stillness and withdrawal, waiting until what it says feels worth saying.

Living the Grace cross

At work

The cross suits roles where timing and tone matter: writing, counseling, design, facilitation, anything that benefits from a person who senses the room and then waits for the right moment. Build in a gap between the request and your answer. A day is often enough to hear your own yes or no.

In relationships

With people close to you, the feeling is strong and so is the urge to keep it in. They may read your silence as distance when it is closer to waiting. Tell them what you are doing: you are letting the wave pass before you speak. That one sentence can change how the quiet is understood.

In decisions

Your Authority is Emotional, because Channel 12-22 is always defined. Do not decide at the top of a wave or in the dip after it. Give an important choice time, notice how it feels across several moods, and let the Ajna's ideas and realizations wait for that answer.

Treat the cross as the description of how you feel, and your Emotional Authority as the way you decide. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.

When the Grace cross is misread

"Repression means I am hiding who I am"

Repression is the canon's title for Gate 47's fourth line, the one this cross always carries. It names a held-back pressure between realizing something and saying it, not a verdict on your honesty.

"If I wait to speak, I am being passive"

Gate 12's fixed first line is The Monk, and its Channel with Gate 22 runs straight to the Throat. Waiting is how this design avoids speaking from the first rush of a wave.

"It is the Left Angle Cross of Informing with a different label"

Informing holds the same four Gates but is a Left Angle cross, lived with the 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 or 6/3 Profile and worked out through others. Grace is the fixed 4/1 version, with all four lines set.

Questions to sit with

One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.

  1. Gate 22: How do you know when a feeling has settled enough to trust?
  2. Gate 47: What have you realized lately that you have not yet said out loud?
  3. Gate 11: What does the mood of a room tell you before anyone has spoken?
  4. Gate 12: When did waiting before you spoke change how the conversation went?

Each one holds Gates of this cross or completes a Channel with it.

A Human Design reading is written from your exact chart, so it shows how Channel 12-22 sits with your other Channels, whether Gate 64 or 56 completes a Channel for you, and what your Type is. Nothing is guessed from the cross name alone.

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Grace

What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Grace?

It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 22, 47, 11 and 12, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path where feeling leads, ideas follow, and Channel 12-22 is always defined.

What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Grace?

They are 22.4 Sensitivity as the Personality Sun, 47.4 Repression as the Personality Earth, 11.1 Attunement as the Design Sun, and 12.1 The Monk as the Design Earth. The 4/1 Profile fixes all four, so every chart with this cross has them.

Why does everyone with Grace have Emotional Authority?

Gates 22 and 12 form Channel 12-22, and both are in the cross, so the Channel is always defined. That defines the Solar Plexus, and a defined Solar Plexus gives Emotional Authority.

What kind of Channel is Channel 12-22?

It is a Channel of the Individual circuit that joins the Solar Plexus, a motor, directly to the Throat. In the canon that makes it a manifesting Channel, one that carries feeling straight to expression.

Which Centers are awareness Centers in Grace?

Two: the Ajna, through Gates 47 and 11, and the Solar Plexus, through Gate 22. The Solar Plexus is also a motor. The Throat, with Gate 12, is neither an awareness Center nor a motor.

Where do Gates 47 and 11 lead beyond the Ajna?

Gate 47 forms Channel 47-64 with Gate 64 in the Head, and Gate 11 forms Channel 11-56 with Gate 56 in the Throat. Both Channels are Collective circuit. The cross does not complete either one on its own.
