Juxtaposition Cross of Ideas

The Juxtaposition Cross of Ideas is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 11, 12, 46 and 25, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path of ideas that need a careful voice, rooted in the G Center's sense of who you are and where you belong.

Simple way to think about it: Ideas is a lighthouse keeper who also writes the signal book. The light sweeps out its pictures without being asked, and the keeper chooses, one careful flash at a time, which of them are worth sending to the ships.

Look for the line that reads Juxtaposition Cross of Ideas. The four numbers in brackets are the Gates of your Personality Sun and Earth, then your Design Sun and Earth, for example (11/12 | 46/25). They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.

The Ideas cross on the BodyGraph

Three Centers hold the four Gates, and none of them is a motor. Gate 11, Ideas, is in the Ajna and Gate 12, Caution, is in the Throat. Gates 46 and 25, the two Selves, both sit in the G Center. The conscious pair comes from the Right Angle Cross of Eden, and the Design pair comes from the Right Angle Cross of The Vessel of Love.

Ideas is your conscious Sun and Caution your conscious Earth, so the pictures in your mind and the care about saying them are both close to awareness. The Determination of the Self and The Spirit of the Self run on the Design side. Your sense of direction and of what is innocent in you comes through in how you live, before you can describe it.

The four Gates in plain language

Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.

Gate 11: Ideas

Gate 11, Ideas, is the conscious Sun and the cross's only Ajna Gate. Its hexagram is Peace. It completes Channel 11-56 with Gate 56 in the Throat, the Channel of Curiosity, with a keynote of a searcher. The fixed fourth line is The Teacher, so the ideas in this cross lean toward being explained. They come as pictures first, and the instinct is to make them understood by someone else.

Gate 12: Caution

Gate 12, Caution, is the conscious Earth and sits in the Throat. Its hexagram is Standstill. It completes Channel 12-22 with Gate 22 in the Solar Plexus, the Channel of Openness, a manifesting Channel that carries a feeling to the Throat. The fixed fourth line is The Prophet, so the caution in this cross is paired with a sense of what is coming. You hold back words until the moment makes them count.

Gate 46: The Determination of the Self

Gate 46, The Determination of the Self, is the Design Sun and a G Center Gate. Its hexagram is Pushing Upward. It completes Channel 29-46 with Gate 29 in the Sacral, the Channel of Discovery. The fixed first line is Being discovered, so the direction of this cross begins with being found by the right circumstance. It is a quiet confidence that you will be in the right place if you are present for it.

Gate 25: The Spirit of the Self

Gate 25, The Spirit of the Self, is the Design Earth and the second G Center Gate. Its hexagram is Innocence. It completes Channel 25-51 with Gate 51 in the Heart, the Channel of Initiation. The fixed first line is Selflessness, so the innocence in this cross shows up as willingness to put yourself aside for something larger. It is the ground of the cross, and it keeps ideas from becoming vanity.

A cross with no motor among its own Gates

Of the four Gates, none sits in a motor Center. The Ajna, Throat and G Center are about thinking, speaking and identity. This is a cross of mind, voice and direction, and the energy to move on any of it has to come from elsewhere in the chart.

That is useful to know. Ideas does not push. It offers. If your chart lacks a motor connected to your Throat, the cross will give you plenty to say and no automatic way to act on it, and the answer is to wait for the right invitation instead of forcing delivery.

Two Selves on the Design side

Gates 46 and 25 are both in the G Center, the Center of identity and direction, and both are Design placements. They are the part of you that moves toward the right place and keeps its innocence. This is not something you choose and so it tends to be noticed by other people first.

Their lines, Being discovered and Selflessness, both ask you to let things come to you. The conscious pair then does the talking about it. In practice, the voice of this cross speaks best from a settled sense of place, not from a need to prove one.

A voice reached from two directions

Gate 11 completes a Channel into the Throat with Gate 56, and Gate 12 sits in the Throat itself and can complete a Channel with Gate 22, a manifesting Channel from the Solar Plexus. So the Ajna's pictures and the Solar Plexus's feelings can both end up as speech.

Gate 12 comes with caution built in, so the speaking is not rushed. Gate 11 brings the idea and Gate 22 brings the feeling, and the cross asks you to wait until both are ready. The Throat here is the last stop for something that has had time to form.

Why the Ideas is a Juxtaposition cross

Ideas is a fixed position under the Juxtaposition angle, and the position is the receiver-and-speaker. You do not move through a series of roles. You keep taking in pictures and choosing which to speak. The only change over a lifetime is how well you have learned to tell the good ones from the passing ones. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.

The four lines of the Ideas cross

A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Ideas cross carries these four.

Personality Sun: Gate 11.4 The TeacherYour ideas arrive wanting to be taught, and you feel their worth most once someone else has understood them.
Personality Earth: Gate 12.4 The ProphetYour caution comes with foresight, so your silence often has a reason that becomes clear to others later.
Design Sun: Gate 46.1 Being discoveredBelow awareness you trust that the right circumstance will find you, and others see that calm before you do.
Design Earth: Gate 25.1 SelflessnessYour innocence shows in a readiness to set yourself aside for something larger, which keeps the ideas honest.

Living the Ideas cross

At work

People with Ideas are often the explainers, writers, designers, teachers and strategists whose value is in turning a vision into something others can use. The work fits best when you can think before you speak and the room does not demand instant opinions. It frays in settings that reward speed and volume over considered delivery.

In relationships

In relationships, you may have a lot going on inside and say very little of it. That caution is real, and so is the other person's wish to know what you think. Tell them how long you need before you can answer, and then give the answer. Being understood matters more to this cross than being agreed with.

In decisions

Ideas can show you options. It cannot tell you which one to commit to.

Take decisions through your Strategy and your inner Authority, and let the cross shape how you explain the choice afterward. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.

When the Ideas cross is misread

"I have so many ideas that I must be a natural leader"

Gate 11 is an Ajna Gate and sits with no motor in this cross. Ideas is about conceiving and explaining, and action depends on the rest of your chart.

"Caution means I am afraid to speak"

Gate 12's hexagram is Standstill and its fixed line is The Prophet. The pause is deliberate, a way of waiting until what is said will count.

"The Left Angle Cross of Education is the same thing"

Education has the same four Gates, but it goes with the 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 or 6/3 Profile and works out through others. Ideas is only the 4/1, with every line fixed.

Questions to sit with

One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.

  1. Gate 11: Which idea have you been carrying that you have not yet tried to explain to anyone?
  2. Gate 12: What would you say if you knew the timing was right?
  3. Gate 46: Where are you already in the right place, without having planned to be?
  4. Gate 25: What would you do if it did not matter who got the credit?

Each one holds Gates of this cross or completes a Channel with it.

A Human Design reading is written from your exact chart, so it shows whether Gate 56, 22, 29 or 51 completes a Channel for you and what actually connects your Throat to the rest of your chart. Nothing is guessed from the cross name alone.

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Ideas

What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Ideas?

It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 11, 12, 46 and 25, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path of ideas, careful speech, and a quiet sense of direction from the G Center.

What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Ideas?

They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 11.4 The Teacher as the Personality Sun, 12.4 The Prophet as the Personality Earth, 46.1 Being discovered as the Design Sun, and 25.1 Selflessness as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.

Does Ideas have any motor Centers?

Not among its own four Gates. They sit in the Ajna, the Throat and the G Center. Whether a motor reaches your Throat depends on the Channels your whole chart completes, and the cross does not decide that.

Which manifesting Channel can Ideas complete?

Channel 12-22. Gate 12 sits in the Throat and Gate 22 is in the Solar Plexus, a motor, so the Channel joins a motor to the Throat. The cross supplies only Gate 12. You would need Gate 22 elsewhere in your chart for it to be defined.

When should someone with Ideas speak up?

When the timing has had a chance to settle. Gate 12 is named Caution, its hexagram is Standstill, and its fixed line is The Prophet. The cross works best when it speaks once an idea is ready, instead of reacting to the first prompt.

Why does Ideas place two Gates in the G Center?

Because the Design pair, Gates 46 and 25, both belong there. They carry the cross's sense of direction and innocence. Together they ground the thinking and speaking of the other two Gates in a feeling of who you are.
