Juxtaposition Cross of Assimilation

The Juxtaposition Cross of Assimilation is a Human Design Incarnation Cross made of Gates 23, 43, 30 and 29, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about turning insight into speech, with two Design Gates that bring feeling and a body-level yes underneath the voice.

Simple way to think about it: Assimilation is the translator at the border. Ideas arrive in one language and people need them in another, so the translator takes each one apart, chooses what will carry across, and hands it over in pieces that can be used.

Look for the line that reads Juxtaposition Cross of Assimilation. The four numbers in brackets are the Gates of your Personality Sun and Earth, then your Design Sun and Earth, for example (23/43 | 30/29). They match the four Gates below. The chart symbols guide shows where the Sun and Earth sit in the two planet columns.

The Assimilation cross on the BodyGraph

Four Centers hold the four Gates: the Throat, the Ajna, the Sacral and the Solar Plexus. Gates 23 and 43 sit at the top and form Channel 23-43 between them. Gates 29 and 30 sit lower, in the two motor Centers that this cross touches. The conscious pair, 23 and 43, is the pair the Right Angle Cross of Explanation carries; the Design pair, 29 and 30, comes from the Right Angle Cross of Contagion.

Assimilation is your conscious Sun and Insight your conscious Earth, so the Throat and the Ajna are on the side you know. You are aware of the idea and of the effort to put it into words. Recognition of Feelings and Saying Yes work on the Design side, so other people may notice your read of a room, and your yeses, before you do.

The four Gates in plain language

Start with the Gate that holds your Personality Sun, then its Earth, then the Design pair.

Gate 23: Assimilation

Gate 23, Assimilation, is the Personality Sun and the cross's Throat Gate. Its hexagram is Splitting Apart: a whole taken to pieces so each piece can be understood. It completes Channel 23-43, Structuring, with Gate 43, and this cross carries the same name as its Personality Sun Gate. The Sun is fixed in line 4, Fragmentation, so the voice comes in parts: one clear piece at a time, offered to someone ready to take it in. The Gate belongs to the Individual circuit.

Gate 43: Insight

Gate 43, Insight, is the Personality Earth and the cross's only Ajna Gate. Its hexagram is Breakthrough: understanding that arrives suddenly and whole. Paired with Gate 23 it forms Channel 23-43, so the idea has a direct route to the Throat. As the Earth it is the ground the voice stands on. Its fixed line is 4, The one-track mind: the insight follows one thread and does not scatter. That focus is what lets it break through, and also why a second thread can feel like noise.

Gate 30: Recognition of Feelings

Gate 30, Recognition of Feelings, is the Design Sun and sits in the Solar Plexus, a motor Center and an awareness Center. Its hexagram is The Clinging Fire. It completes Channel 30-41, Recognition, with Gate 41 in the Root, a Collective Channel. As the Design Sun it works below awareness. Line 1 is fixed here, Composure: a steadiness on the surface, so feelings are recognized without being acted out. Others may read that calm as distance, when it is closer to patience with the fire.

Gate 29: Saying Yes

Gate 29, Saying Yes, is the Design Earth and the cross's Sacral Gate. Its hexagram is The Abysmal. It completes Channel 29-46, Discovery, with Gate 46 in the G Center, a Collective Channel that runs on the Sacral motor. Its fixed line is 1, The Draftee: the yes comes first, and the full meaning of it arrives later. Gate 30 is the opposite Gate on the wheel, so the Design side holds a yes and the feeling that tests that yes in the same cross.

A Channel that is on in every chart

Gates 23 and 43 are both in this cross, and together they form Channel 23-43, Structuring. Every chart with the cross carries all four Gates, so every chart with the cross has this Channel defined. That also means the Ajna and the Throat are defined, and it means nobody with this cross is a Reflector.

Defining a Channel is a fact about the chart, not a promise about skill. What it gives is a steady, built-in line between a thought and the voice. The cross then adds the question of what to put through that line, and the lower Gates are there to help answer it.

A Sacral and a Solar Plexus under the voice

The Design pair sits in the two motor Centers this cross touches. Gate 29 is in the Sacral and Gate 30 in the Solar Plexus, which is also an awareness Center. They are opposite each other on the wheel, and both belong to the Collective circuit through their Channels, 29-46 and 30-41.

These Gates act below awareness, so the pull to say yes and the waves of feeling can feel like part of the weather rather than a choice. Whether those Channels are actually defined depends on the rest of your chart. The cross only supplies two of the four Gates.

One Individual Channel above two Collective ones

The only Channel the four Gates complete among themselves is Individual: Structuring, which is about expressing what is true for one person. Channels 29-46 and 30-41, which need partner Gates from outside the cross, are Collective, and they are about experience that is shared and tested.

So the cross puts a personal voice on top and shared experience beneath it. The work is to let what the lower Gates register shape what the upper Gates choose to say, instead of speaking only from the idea.

Why the Assimilation is a Juxtaposition cross

Because Assimilation is a Juxtaposition cross, nothing about it rotates or hands off. The Throat voice stays the Throat voice, and the breaking down of ideas into pieces others can use is the whole assignment for life. With only one position, the useful question is not who to become but what to take apart next. The Juxtaposition goes with one Profile, 4/1. With any other Profile the same four Gates make a Left Angle cross instead.

The four lines of the Assimilation cross

A Juxtaposition cross comes only with the 4/1 Profile: your Personality Sun sits in line 4 and your Design Sun in line 1, and each Earth shares the line of its Sun. So unlike every other cross, this one comes with its lines fixed. Everyone born with the Assimilation cross carries these four.

Personality Sun: Gate 23.4 FragmentationYou say one part of a thing at a time, breaking a whole idea into pieces that other people can take in.
Personality Earth: Gate 43.4 The one-track mindYour insight comes on a single track, and you tend to follow one idea all the way through before looking at another.
Design Sun: Gate 30.1 ComposureBeneath awareness your feelings keep a calm surface, so others may not see how much is being recognized in them.
Design Earth: Gate 29.1 The DrafteeYou were drafted into saying yes before you chose it, so commitments tend to arrive already half made.

Living the Assimilation cross

At work

People with Assimilation tend to be the ones who can take a tangled subject and explain it one clean piece at a time: teachers, editors, analysts, anyone who structures information for others. It works best when the audience is real and waiting. A good test is to ask who will use this piece, and to stop talking when the answer is nobody.

In relationships

Close to home the pull is to explain everything, including feelings, in tidy parts. The cross also carries a quiet emotional read underneath, so partners may get a calm face and a precise sentence when what they need is the feeling itself. Say the feeling first, then the structure, and let the other person answer before you break anything down.

In decisions

A clear explanation of a choice is not the same as having made it. The Ajna and the Throat can build the case, but they cannot tell you whether it is right for you.

Make the choice with your Type and your inner Authority, then use the cross to explain it, one piece at a time. Your Strategy and Authority are how you get there; the cross is where it leads.

When the Assimilation cross is misread

"One idea at a time means I am narrow"

Gate 43's fourth line, which this cross always carries, is The one-track mind. Following one thread is how the breakthrough happens, and the voice can then offer it in pieces.

"Assimilation means fitting in"

Gate 23 sits in the Individual circuit, and its hexagram is Splitting Apart. The Gate is about taking things apart so they can be understood, not about blending into a group.

"It is just the Left Angle Cross of Dedication"

That cross holds the same four Gates, but it is lived with the 5/1, 5/2, 6/2 or 6/3 Profile and worked out through other people. Assimilation is only the 4/1 and fixes all four lines.

Questions to sit with

One question for each Gate. Notice which one you answer quickly and which one you avoid.

  1. Gate 23: What is the one piece of your idea that someone could use today, and who needs to hear it?
  2. Gate 43: Which thread are you following right now, and what is it costing you to ignore the others?
  3. Gate 30: What are you feeling that your calm face is hiding from the people close to you?
  4. Gate 29: Which yes did you give before thinking, and are you still glad you gave it?

Each one holds Gates of this cross or completes a Channel with it.

A Human Design reading is written from your exact chart, so it shows how your four fixed lines work with your Type and Authority, and whether Gate 46 or Gate 41 completes a Channel for you. Nothing is guessed from the cross name alone.

FAQ: Juxtaposition Cross of Assimilation

What is the Juxtaposition Cross of Assimilation?

It is a Juxtaposition Incarnation Cross in Human Design made of Gates 23, 43, 30 and 29, carried only with the 4/1 Profile. It is a fixed path about turning insight into speech, with feeling and a body-level yes beneath the voice.

What are the four lines of the Juxtaposition Cross of Assimilation?

They are fixed by the 4/1 Profile: 23.4 Fragmentation as the Personality Sun, 43.4 The one-track mind as the Personality Earth, 30.1 Composure as the Design Sun, and 29.1 The Draftee as the Design Earth. Everyone with this cross carries all four.

Does everyone with this cross have Channel 23-43?

Yes. Gates 23 and 43 are both in the cross and every chart carries all four Gates, so Channel 23-43 is always defined. That defines the Ajna and the Throat too, and it means this cross is never carried by a Reflector.

What do the Sacral and Solar Plexus add to Assimilation?

Gate 29 in the Sacral and Gate 30 in the Solar Plexus are the Design pair. They bring a body-level yes and a steady surface over deep feeling. Whether their Channels are defined depends on the rest of your chart.

Which Centers do the four Gates of Assimilation touch?

Four: the Throat holds Gate 23, the Ajna holds Gate 43, the Solar Plexus holds Gate 30 and the Sacral holds Gate 29. Two of them are motor Centers, and two are awareness Centers, the Ajna and the Solar Plexus.

What does Fragmentation mean as the Sun line?

Line 4 of Gate 23 is titled Fragmentation. In this cross it is fixed, so the voice works by breaking a subject into parts and offering one at a time. The Sun line is the most visible color of the whole cross.
