The Emotional Wave, and Why You Are Not Moody
The Emotional Wave, and Why You Are Not Moody
Tuesday everything is possible. Thursday the same life looks flat and you cannot point at what changed.
Nothing did.
If you have been apologising for that since you were about fourteen, this is the part of Human Design that tends to land hardest.
What is actually happening
Roughly half of people have a defined Solar Plexus. It generates emotional movement the way a defined Sacral generates work energy: continuously, on its own schedule, whether or not anything is going on.
That movement is a wave. Up for a while, down for a while, round again.
The important part is that it does not need a cause. Most people spend years hunting for the reason they feel low on a Thursday, find something plausible, and treat that as the explanation. Usually the wave was simply where it was.
Looking for the reason you feel low is often how a small mood becomes a large story.
Why "moody" is the wrong word
Moody implies malfunction. Something is wrong and you are handling it badly.
But nobody calls a Generator moody for having energy on Monday and none on Friday night. That is just an engine doing its cycle.
Same thing here. The Solar Plexus is a motor, and what it produces is emotional movement. The wave is the mechanism working, not the mechanism failing.
What people are usually reacting to is not the wave. It is being on the receiving end of a decision made at the top of one.
The part that actually matters
Here is the practical claim, and it is the whole reason this is worth knowing.
There is no truth in the moment. Not a slower kind of truth, none at all. At any single point on the wave you have a reading of how things look from there, and it is genuinely how they look from there, and it will look different in two days.
So the peak is not clarity. It is the peak. And the trough is not honesty finally arriving. It is the trough.
What is left after you have seen the same question from both is much closer to an answer.
That is what Emotional Authority means in practice, and it applies to about half of every Type.
How this goes wrong
Three predictable ways.
Saying yes at the top. Everything feels possible, the commitment is easy to make, and Thursday-you inherits it. Most overcommitment traces to a peak.
Ending things at the bottom. Jobs, relationships, projects. The trough is convincing and it argues well. Very little that gets ended there stays ended for the right reasons.
Explaining the wave to other people. When a partner asks what is wrong, "nothing, I am just low today" is true and sounds evasive. It takes a while for both people to trust that.
How long to wait
People want a number and there is not a clean one.
For small decisions, a night. For a real one, long enough to have felt it differently at least twice, which is usually a few days. For something large, a week or more.
The test is not the clock. It is whether you have seen the same question from more than one place on the wave.
If it still reads the same from both, that is your answer, and you can move.
You are not waiting to feel certain. You are waiting to have seen it twice.
If your Solar Plexus is open
The other half of the room has a different problem.
With an open Solar Plexus, you do not generate a wave. You take in whoever is nearby and amplify them, which means you often feel their weather more strongly than they do.
So you can spend an evening convinced you are upset about something, and discover twenty minutes after leaving that it has gone.
That does not make the feeling fake. It makes the source worth checking.
And it is why two people in the same house can have completely different relationships with the same evening.
What the wave is not
Three things worth separating out, because they get confused constantly.
It is not an excuse. Knowing you are low does not make it fine to be short with people. The wave explains the state. It does not hand out permission.
It is not the same as depression. A wave moves. It goes up again, reliably, without anything changing. If a low does not lift, if it stays flat for weeks, if nothing pulls you back up, that is not a wave and it belongs with a doctor rather than a chart.
It is not a reason to avoid deciding forever. Waiting has an end point. If you cannot say what you are waiting for or roughly when, that is avoidance wearing the wave as a costume.
Living with someone who has one
The other half of this, and it saves a lot of arguments.
If your partner has a defined Solar Plexus and you do not, their low day arrives in your body too, often louder. You then ask what is wrong, repeatedly, and they experience being poked while riding a normal cycle.
The thing that helps is both people knowing which of them generates and which amplifies. That single fact ends a surprising number of these evenings.
And a rule that works: nothing important gets discussed at either end of the wave. Not resolved, not decided, not raised. It will still be there in two days and it will look different.
Something worth doing for a month
Note two things each day. Where you are on the wave, roughly, high or low or middle. And any decision you made.
After a month, look at where the decisions cluster.
A lot of people find something uncomfortable and useful: the commitments they regret sit at one end, and the things they walked away from sit at the other.
