Authority
How you are designed to make decisions. The signal that tells you when something is actually right for you. There are seven types of Authority, from Emotional Authority, which requires waiting for emotional clarity, to Sacral Authority, which responds through gut-level sounds and sensations. Your Authority is personal and consistent.
Profile
The role you are here to play. How you naturally show up in relationships, work, and life. Your Profile is expressed as two numbers, like 3/5 or 6/2, and each combination describes a specific way of learning, relating, and contributing. There are 12 Profiles in total.

Defined and Open Centers
The colored Centers in your BodyGraph represent energy that is consistent and reliable. The white or open Centers represent energy you absorb from the people and environments around you. Neither is better or worse. Both matter. Understanding which Centers are defined and which are open is one of the most practical things your chart reveals.
Channels
Channels connect two Centers and create a fixed energy flow in your design. Each Channel carries a specific theme that shapes how you experience life, relationships, and work. Your active Channels are part of what makes your chart unique. There are 36 Channels in total, and most people have between two and six active in their chart.
Gates
Gates represent specific themes and behaviors that show up in your personality, your decisions, and your relationships. Each Gate sits inside a Center and carries its own energy. When a Gate connects to another Gate on the other side of a Channel, it creates a defined Channel. The combination of your active Gates and Channels creates the full picture of your design.

The Personality Calculation
The first calculation uses the exact positions of the Sun, Moon, Earth, and the other planetary bodies at the moment you were born. This produces the conscious side of your chart, the parts of yourself you can recognize and identify with. In your BodyGraph, these activations are shown in black.
The Design Calculation
The second calculation is based on the planetary positions approximately 88 days before your birth, which corresponds to the point when the neocortex is considered fully developed. This produces the unconscious side of your chart, the parts of your nature that operate below your awareness. These activations appear in red on your BodyGraph.
Your BodyGraph Is Generated
When you enter your birth date, time, and location into this calculator, both calculations run simultaneously. The planetary positions are mapped onto the 64 Gates of the BodyGraph, and the resulting pattern of activated Gates, Channels, and Centers determines your Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile, and Definition. This is why your birth time matters. Even a difference of a few minutes can shift a planetary position from one Gate to another, changing parts of your chart.
Same Precision, Any Chart
This calculator uses the same astronomical ephemeris data used across professional Human Design tools. The calculation is mechanical, not interpretive. Two calculators using the same birth data and the same ephemeris will produce the same chart. What differs between chart tools is what they show you after the chart is generated, and how well they help you understand what it means.

What stays stable
Your Type, Strategy, and Authority are relatively stable across small time variations. If your birth time is off by a few minutes, these core elements will usually remain the same. But your Profile, some of your Gate activations, and finer details like your Incarnation Cross can shift with smaller time differences. The closer your birth time is to exact, the more reliable every layer of your chart becomes.
Without your exact time
If you do not know your exact birth time, use your best estimate. You can still generate a chart and get value from it, especially from your Type and Strategy. If you later find your exact time on a birth certificate or hospital record, come back and run your chart again for the most precise result. Many people start with an approximate chart and refine it later.
